Me, I'm dishonest, and you can always trust a dishonest man to be dishonest.
Honestly, it's the honest ones you have to watch out for!!!

Cromwell and S&S do a 1/76th Shilka (in resin).
The S&S one is around a fiver (well it was when I bought mine), the Cromwell version is considerably dearer, but more of a kit (S&S are wargame models).

I recently got one of my "Holy Grail" kits... Douglas Skyshark. And I'm about to find out why Mach 2 kits have such a bad reputation. ;D
Wouldn't mind reasonably-priced Bristol Brigand (bearing in mind I'm unemployed ;)) and the Vautour would be a must-buy for me.
What if... I had a brain?

The only "grail kit" I can think of was a Hasegawa 1/48 Hawker Typhoon Mk.Ib with tear-drop canopy and rockets. Looked for one for ages here in Germany. Finally found one in London on a school trip. Sticker on the box says the shop was a "Modelzone".

Reading through this thread I find myself astonished by my own good fortune - several of the kits mentioned here I have in the stash. Akuyaku, Pancake, SA-2, et al...... OMG I'm turning into one of those dreaded collectors!

There's a few top notch ex-Matchbox kits that have yet to reappear as Revell kits, all obtainable ay shows. etc, so more nice to haves rather than 'holy grails'.
But one Airfix kit that's a mystery to me is their Banshee.  Haven't even seen a 2nd hand one around for many, many years.

Well for me it was always the Vautour. In the last couple of years at SMW and thanks to Thorvic and the Wookster I now have a Hi Tech Vatour IIB and an Aerofile IIB. Now I have the 2 and the MPM ones are due I can start them

I take it those kits were the ones without the trenched out panel lines? :D

Although I'd like to see the MB Flower-class corvette come back into production.  1/72 scale warships are pretty rare, and would make one helluva diorama with the Revell U-boat kit.

And Philp, yeah, I'd like to see a new 1/48th scale 106 to replace the Monogram POS that's been out there forever.  And more decal sheets for them.  Like 119th FS, NJANG.

Didn't Revell re=pop it a year or so back ?

Still quite easy to get in the UK

I saw one of these on eBay only a week or so ago - will let you know if I spot another.

They also occasionally show up on http://www.oldmodelkits.com.

;D ;D

That's because those who do have one think the box is empty!

Never was an Airfix box so oversized for its contents, you need a microscope to find the sprues bouncing around in there!
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

To me it's the 1/24 Tachikoma that Wave put out some years ago.
These things are going for $150+ on eBay when they are available at all.
Not to be mistaken for the pre-assembled ones which goes for "only" $50.

I would suggest that the crown for worst box/kit ratio actually belongs to the Airfix 1/48 Spitfire Mk.22/24 kit.
<...>

Absolutely!  And, quite interestingly, taking the prize for both over- and undersized ratios.
The late 1990's issue had the sprue shoehorned into the box, so much so that the sprue actually bends under that strain. At the other end of the spectrum, the late 2000's reissue had the sprue broken up in such way that you could easily fit four kits into the box (same size as earlier issue).
Cheers,
Moritz

I guess you haven't seen the 617 Sqn. Commemorative boxing then, with one 1/72 Lancaster and one 1/48 Tonka in it. Once they're taken out, it just can't be put back in again without the top bulging at least half a box depth.
If I'm not building models, I'm out riding my dirtbike
