Large heavylift Helicopters

A couple of days ago I found where I had put some old drawings I had done. These are of a couple of Heavylift Helicopters I had done pre-computer days.

The idea was to do a C-130 size helicopter, but I think they're more like Airbus A400 size.

I'm just remembering what I scaled them to Kit, the little car under the tail of both drawings is a scale drawing of my wife's old '78 Camero, so I think they're quite a bit bigger than even the A400M. I had thought about building at least one of them in 1/72 scale. I've no idea what I had thought to use as a base kit though, I did these way back in the 80's. Of course, now that I've been building my Atlantic, I could scratch build the whole thing ----

The top pic is actually a compound helicopter, it has two hi-bypass engines under the stub wings

I've got one of those planned too, I bought a 1/35 Chinook just so I could see what the rotor blades were like in the kit and they're just what I want. The bonus was I found that the separate sponsons that the kit has, will work for my Quad Tilt Rotor project too

if you have a 1/35 or 1/48 chinook and the nose section of a C-119 boxcar, you can make one of these

I don't think the dimensions for this helicopter in the link can be right Nils, it's giving the length as being nearly 40 feet. The CH-47's fuselage is a bit more than 52 feet long !!!

A 1/35 Chinook roughly measures out in 1/72 to 104 feet

EDIT: OK found something about it that's more convincing, fuselage length 66 feet, 12 feet wide. Maybe the 1/48 scale is a better choice for a scale-a-rama
