Dear learned friends.....I have not dabbled with ships much.....apart from a purist n a ruler.....is there much difference between a ship of either scale.....say a Kuznetsov in 720 n a Minsk in 700.......would they look to different side by side.....I been trying to sort the maths out.....visually I'd say they where ok.....

Well the difference is roughly 3%, which should give you an idea. Some supposedly identical-scale kits of the same thing are different by more than 3%!

You might notice it if you start putting 1/700th and 1/720th bits on the same ship, but even then a lot of detail in things this small is pretty crude and inaccurate anyway. I've been a bit surprised by how crude some of the detail on ships this size is, even from "quality" manufacturers.

I have found that if you put 1/700 aircraft on a 1/720 aircraft carrier, or vice versa you do notice it a little bit- especially if you have 1/700 and 1/720 aircraft side by side on the flight deck.  A casual oberserver would likely not notice, but it would slightly bother a trained eye. Generally close enough.

Cool.....! That's what I was hoping for.....it will be all the same a/c on the ships so that ain't a worry.....

You can actually get a much better 1/700 Kuznetsov BTW along with a seperate airgroup for it by Trumpeter, so you can have Yak-141s on Minsk and Sea Flankers or Fulcrums on Kuznetsov.

I mix the scales freely, and the 3% difference easily falls within the natural variations in shrinkage of parts and mis-sized pieces. Plenty of bits are oversized in this scale range, so the difference doesn't make that much of a difference.

In want of hobby space!  The kitchen table is never stable.  Still managing to get some building done.

I am curious, where would one be able to purchase Maltese Air Force (or equivalent) roundels and Fin Flashes?

Give me time, I'm doing some.......  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

If that is the case, I am looking for 1/72 scale Real World Maltese Roundel and Fin flashes.  I am planning on painting and decaling a 1/72 scale aircraft differently.

Dragon......I have made a couple of kits and posted them on here....look up Maltese Su25 or Mi28 Havoc by me. The decals on those were produced by Thedarkmaster but I think he is off at the moment with the new addition to his family. Kit is helping me out with another run of decals....I still have a few left over from the first run but have a lot of kits for my Maltese AF........be interesting to see yours when its done....

Not wanting to hijack the thread, but the decals would be for something I would be shocked about if no one else on this site had thought about it before on this site- basically a black F-16 (possibly one of the Israeli F-16 kits) with full color roundels and fin flash.  You don't have to be Sam Spade to figure out where I am going with this.......
