I'm sure Lee will put me right but aren't there adequate 1/72 Spitfires of all types?
Why produce another one?
Why not put your efforts into something we need like Yaks 36, 38 and 41.

Because it's easy for them to make Spitfires? And as others have proved, easy to get wrong too.

There isn't currently a decent kit of the Spitfire Vc, the most produced variant of the V, in 72nd. The Airfix one - a shotgun wedding of an elderly 70s tool with an abortion of a Vc wing - is thankfully out of the catalogue.* The Sword kit was limited run and now OOP. Try finding one at a decent affordable price on ebay! That said, there's still a few about and they can be usually picked up at shows. Highplanes have one, but it's hard to find and not an easy kit to build, requiring a great deal of sanding and fettling. I don't wish to think about the PM "kit"...

At the end of the day, Spitfires will sell, regardless of mark and variation, in greater numbers than some oddball Russian thing.

It's not like AZ/KP have to do any major retooling either. Just a new wing sprue, with top and bottom halves, two styles of blister and cannon barrels, bung it in with their current Vb and they're set.

*It's not all bad - later boxings under the Hornby regime have decent decals, includes the Vb canopy and the sprue has the bits for the Seafire IIc, which means a Seafire Ib can be done from the kit, albeit with a new canopy

Sadly you are correct. At least until we get the re-education camps up and running and the people come to appreciate the unique charms of the Yak 36...

I guess one other advantage of KP doing a 'mainstream' type like the Spit, particularly a poorly-represented Mark, is that it might encourage more modellers to try the brand.

I remember discovering KP through the MiG-19 in my local shop back in the late 1980s but not many UK or USA modellers would 'take the risk' for a brand on the back of something oddball like that.

But if they built the KP Spit and liked it... maybe try a MiG-29...

There is one, from ART Model. And from the kits I have built so from this manufacturer, it should even be a decent offering.

The only Vc that we've had from the Czechs has been the Sword one.

AFAIK, there isn't a tie up between Sword and AZ, although the latter did rebox the Sword early Hurricane with some modifications. I doubt Sword would let AZ rebox the kit when theirs are going for stupid money on ebay - the Seafire IIc went for over £25 last week.
