3D Kits

3D Kits produce decals & injection moulded conversion kits for aircraft. Their first set was a pair of Rotol props to convert a 1/72 Spitfire, which was followed up by a Mk.II conversion set & a single Rotol prop set. A decal set for Rotol prop equipped Mk.I & Mk.II Spits was released in both 1/72 & 1/48 to compliment them. They've just released a Spitfire Mk.II LR set & a Hurricane Mk.IID set. Most of the sets include decals too.

An unusual approach, offering conversion sets in injection & it looks like the original sets were popular enough for them to release further sets. Looking forward to seeing what else they produce.

There was talk of them doing two stage Merlins for the Tamiya Mosquito. Which would sell by the bucketload.

Personally, I'd like a generic undercarriage/cannons set for Spitfires - legs and doors, plus cannons for the Vb, Vc, IXe, 21/22 & 24. These always get knocked off or get eaten by the carpet monster so would be a good seller. They'd also be ideal for conversions or resin kits.

Injection moulding? Either they're doing something different to create the moulds at much lower cost, or they're being incredibly optimistic.

There's a tab marked 'manufacturing services' on the panel on the left. They offer IM services for sale, so I'd guess that this is just part of their business. If it's a sucess, I wouldn't be surprised if they move onto kits in the future.

I'm using the Rotol props set at the moment. Very nice, easy to use and they have different bits depending on your base kit (Airfix or Tamiya)the quality of the mouldings is excellent.

I'll have to have a look at the Hurri IID set, thanks for the heads up Simon

Im betting these are just a side line for the guys main business, what ever that may be. Just added into existing tooling for other items, rather than waste usable space.

Your wish is their command Lee, they've got several 1/72 turned brass Spitfire cannon sets from Master Model for the B, C and early and late E wings. They've also got Brownings and some for the Fw-190A:

I've got some of the Master brass barrels - bought a set for the late E wing (which also covers the 21 series wing guns too) a few weeks back and I'd got some with a pair of Spits I bought near Xmas.

I did mention my idea to Stewart, the guy who is 3D at Telford and saw the test shots for the IX upgrade. Just wish I'd got some of the free instrument panel placards, very handy for the Airfix PRXIX!
