So at the last show I went too the vets were selling kits to fund programs. Scooterman pointed out a huge box of discarded and unfinished kits under the table. I , of course, snagged it even before I set my stuff up.

One of the nifty bits in it was a Hustler corpse

I have had in my mind for years the idea for a ground launched space fighter ,zwilling type craft kinda space shuttle like. The fighter riding into space on a reuseable rocket fuel tank combo.
I have had several designs in mind but they just never came together :banghead: I have also been eyeballing and F-89 with the intention of turning it into a space fighter. I know I stole this idea from someone on this forum ( I will do some research so I can give proper credit)
To sum up the two ideas have come together. This will be the heavilly modded B-58 as the rocket /fuel tank combo(The Frog) with the Scorpion riding it into space

Here is where I stole the idea for the fighter part from  Our buddy AXU

I plan on having the engine mock up done later on

So here is the fighter elements engine mock up

This is (sort of ) how she'll look riding the frog

It will be buried deeper and I have yet to work out the carrier engine/tank config or the fighters wing set up.

Great idea!  How about upward cranked stub wings with missile pods on the end?

Weaver

LIKE IT!

A suggestion, if I may?

The fighter looks like it needs something something underneath at the rear to "balance" it: just a "feel" thing, can't justify it. Why not give it a ventral weapon pod or fin at the rear which fits behind the Frog's body, in the space left by it's tailcone, then use the Scorpion's engine pods to give the Frog two rocket engines at mid span?

I'll try and do a rough of what I mean...

Frog with twin rockets to leave space for the Scorpion's ventral fin/pod:

Thanks y'all  Most excellent ideas
I am mocking up wing concepts. I am trying to stay true to the "Scorpion" concept so the two upper engines will have a "stinger" gun between them
Here is an initial mock up

The forward wings (the claws) will be straight. The rear stabs (legs?) will droop down.
Both sets will probably have some sort of tip mounted weapons  I may very well incorporate the existing wing intakes as radiators?
I also may add a third set between the two .

Mossie

Goody!!! :drink:
How about trying the wings in oppostion, >< or <>?
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

that fighter is just awesome. ithink the second set of engines would look cool on the wing tips of the rear wings. cool no matter how you do it!

Gerry Anderson, eat your heart out.

Ultra-imaginative stuff there, I'm still trying to figure out which way it goes!  ;)
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Very cool. I'm still kicking myself for not grabbing either of those 2 dirt-cheap Hustler kits from Austin last year. Which reminds me....I can't wait to get back to another show ! I wonder if there are any good ones in Michigan ?

You do realize that, once the engine pods were on, it was begging to be a racing boat?

Seriously cool stuff going on here!

The front wings just don't work for me.
How about mocking up Mossie's version 2 ?

But the engine layout does work for me.

Looking forward to watching the progress of this one.
