Thanks all for the comments.    This one really turned out well for me and as pointed out really could have been a Soviet design modification job.

I`ve replaced the pictures in the OP with newer `sunnier` ones as the blue tinge in the original was getting on my nerves.

Thanks Philp. The idea sprung about when I was thinking of making a jet powered B-29. Originally I was going to build a standard B-29 and then add jet engines. Then the swept wing aspect reared it`s head as well as a tail so I started to turn towards creating a Tu-16 prototype concept. Anyway, the rest they say is history, but as requested here are some shots of the build in progress.

First, I taped a B-29 fuselage section to Tu-16 half and found out where it matches up best.



Found the bit I was after and then discovered that I would be cutting through the gun turret sections. So after another rethink the cut had to go slightly diagonal towards the front. To get a reasonable straight line I turned to the trusty masking tape and with a marker pen made my line.



After this I taped the fuselage sections back to their respective partners and then made sure the lines tallied up.



Now I know what some of you are thinking....! Why didn`t I just lob off the cockpit sections and swap then over instead of going for this `tail` swap..?? The answer to that is the diameter on the B-29 is a lot bigger than the Tu-16 and it would have been very noticable.

So after a bit of careful cutting and sawing this is the result......



Needed the blast deflectors so a bit more surgery required.



Dug out all the extra plastic within the engine bays tonight so that I can get a snugger fit to the fuselage and use less filler when the time comes. Tacked it together to show roughly what I`m hopping for and added the blast deflectors as well. You will note that the tip of my thumb has become the first casualty of this build due to a scalpal `malfunction`....:LOL:





Got the tedious job out the way tonight. Pretty sure you can get RSI in this hobby. The filler for the gaps between the engine bays and fuselage turned out alright in the end so will get to the first spray coat tomorrow with a bit of luck.



So onto the hard bit of this build. First problem, how do you get a circle and an oval to `mate`?



Well, first I need to build an internal frame so out came some spare sprues.

Starting with glueing 4 into place like this.....,



..... and will add more tomorrow so I have a steady frame to place the spare plastic on to it. Then the filler will come into play.

Just hope I got the measurment ratio right.....?? :rolleyes



Spent the last couple of days putting the `internal framework` into place one section at a time and letting it all dry rock hard. This morning I cut some spare plastic into shape and put that into place. Plugs up most of the `hole` so with a bit of luck less filler will be needed later on.

All looks a bit of a mess at the moment but plenty of time to smooth it out and tidy it all up.





Got the big `holes` filled and now added the exhust deflectors and wings. Still got to fill the gaps on these by the way and I`m starting to work on the u/c, turrets and other little bits and bob`s.

Overall I`m pretty happy with the outcome and I`m hopeing that I`ve captured the look of a prototype 1950`s Soviet style jet bomber.  





And thats pretty much it....!
