Anyone who starts a Whiff with a Twin Mustang is already on a good track........  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

TsrJoe, you guessed it it's based in vietnam, backstory and final photos in a little bit.

Vietnam, March, 1971: As Lt. Pat "Maverick" Harris (Harris got his nickname because he on average got grounded or confined to base every week back in the states) strode out to his plane, he looked back at how it got here (Vietnam). After the last Twin Mustang was stricken from the inventory, they were all thrown (literally) in the junkyard. Gone but not forgotten, would be the expression for them. When the Vietnam war started and the U.S. got involved, it needed a good ground attack aircraft. Due to a shortage in the supply pipeline of Skyraiders, the Twin Mustang was looked at as a ground attack aircraft. After getting rid of the high altitude stuff that was necessary for escorting B-29's, they had a decent ground attack aircraft. After stressing the wings, North American found that the AF-82 J (Attack-Fighter) "Junglestang" could carry A single 500 lb. bomb on the center pylon, 2 250 lb. bombs on the inner pylons, and 10 rockets on the outer pylons. The engines were also optimized for low level preformance. Most AF-82's also had 50 cal gunpods from P-39's added on. As Pat gave the aircraft one last look over, the crew chief started the engines and yelled at him to get his @$$ in gear for the Viet Cong were advancing on the airfield and it was in danger of being over-run. Right as Harris sucked the gear up his observer, Lt. Spencer "Eyes" Carson, (he was given the name "Eyes" because he always had eyes for the women) in the right fuselage called out to him that he could see the target. As Harris wheeled the big aircraft around, he too saw how close the Viet Cong were to the airbase. The Junglestang was soon met by fierce AAA fire. Harris remarked on how smart it was of North American to add some armor to protect the vulnerable radiator. The plane shuddered as it took hit after hit. Harris dropped the bombs on what looked like a group of fuel and ammo trucks and was rewarded with a nice big explosion. He came back around and salvoed his rockets and strafed the troops. He also noticed how well the other aircraft of his flight were doing. As he came in for a landing he saw Viet Cong running across the runway, he used the last of his ammo to strafe them. As he came to a stop the ground crew ran over and feverishly worked to reload the plane with it's engines still running. Once they were done he took back off and attacked again. His logbook shows he flew 8 sorties that day. His personal aircraft, 46-377 which was at one point the last prop driven aircraft in the Air Force inventory was thrown in the junkyard and left there. It got resurrected and put in SEA camo and sent to Vietnam. It was finally retired in 1973 due to metal corrosion.

Ok, that's the story and here are the pictures-
