Read this in the latest SAMI and thought it might be of interest. They're producing an injection moulded Sea Vixen FAW1 in 72nd scale. Must say I'm looking forward to reading a decent review on it.

It'll be the same kit and for that price I'd rather move up a scale and get the Airfix Vixen.  Robbing... (rest of rant deleted on legal advice)

Saw the Hellcat this afternoon in Modelzone.  £30.  THIRTY QUID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  FOR A 72ND SCALE INJECTION AIRCRAFT THE SIZE OF A SPITFIRE? I'm not going to risk another ban with the amount of swearing I want to do over this.  Robbing.. (rest of bile, spleen venting and invective deleted on legal advice)  ANYONE who has the temerity to pay this..(rest of bile, spleen venting and invective deleted on legal advice)

At that price, maybe the CMR Spitfires do seem to be somewhat of a bargain...

Think I'll stick with my Academy, Italeri and Revell kits that were all under a fiver!

Thought I felt a tremor over here after you fell off your chair Lee ---  ;D

If they charge £30 for a Hellcat we'd need a mortgage to get the Sea Vixen!

I'm with Lee, DON'T buy their stuff!

<...> DON'T buy their stuff  AT FULL RETAIL PRICES!

There! Fixed that for you! ;)

I got their 1/200 Avro Vulcan on eBay just days after it was released here in Germany for a little over a tenner, which works out to a little less than 50% of their recommended retail price. Didn't feel robbed and checked my back for a scar, but both kidneys still in place.
Cheers,
Moritz

Must, then, my projects bend to the iron yoke of a mechanical system? Is my soaring spirit to be chained down to the snail's pace of matter?

The Wooksta!

The Vulcan is a scaled down clone of the Airfix one.  22 notes?  Barely a fiver less than the current Airfix release.  Sod that.  I'd stick to 72nd.  200th is a stupid scale anyway.

My thoughts exactly Kit
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Hannants have the Sea Vixen listed at £36.99.  Interestingly, HLJ have it at the equivalent of £20, it's at 20% less than the retail price & they've sold out their initial stock so it might go up to the rrp of approx £25 if it's an introductory offer.  I'm not sure how much it works out once you factor in postage & exchange rates but it still should be cheaper than the forty odd quid Hannants will charge once you add in postage.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

That's your VAT coming into play Simon isn't it?.  I don't know if you can toggle the price list when you go into Hannants' website but when I do there's a toggle at the top of each list which has either EU prices or rest of world prices.  I switch it to rest of world and you get the cheaper price.  The Hellcat that you would buy for GBP 29.99, I buy for GBP 24.99, still a lot of money for a 1/72 kit and I probably won't buy one. Mind you I've just done the same with the Sea Vixen and the price minus the VAT (which is 20% right) works out to a tad over 30 quid

I see what you mean, VAT now being at a whopping 20% does hike the price up somewhat.  I guess the other five quid allows for the importers slice.  It's easy to forget how much VAT adds.

And over here in Canada we grumble about our GST (different wording for VAT) which is  --- 5% ---  :o :o :o Although some provinces have an additional sales tax added, somewhere between 5% and 9% I think depending which province you live in.  In Alberta there isn't a provincial sales tax.
