The Canberra F.12 was introduced as the only really effective high altitude interceptor the RAF had been able to develop in the late 1950s.  The Javelin had never achieved a particularly high performance and was limited in what aerobatics could be undertaken. The Canberra, armed with Vickers Red Dean fully-active Radar homing AAMs was created in part to fill the role that the Javelin had failed in.   Able to intercept Soviet Bombers, far out at sea and at high altitude these aircraft acted as a deterrent to Soviet adventurism for many years during the Cold War.  The model depicts a Canberra F.12 in operation with 5 Squadron RAF in 1965.

The model was made using the Freightdog P.12 conversion kit, using the Airfix Canberra B(I).8 fuselage and the PR.9 wings.  XH801 is a serial from a series which was not assigned at the end of the Javelin series.

I like it. I certainly approve of your chosen squadron :)

I suppose id better get my finger out and get my long stalled example finished.
I always hope for the best.
Unfortunately,
experience has taught me to expect the worst.

Nice build using Colins conversion set and 5 sqdn is ideal for an interceptor option

Real nice airplane Rickshaw, the wing tip missiles and radar really change the look of the Canberra.

Nice to see one of these conversions built up and looking smart.

I have two in the stash: one to do "straight" and one..... not. ;)

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Ah, so that's what the Javelin decals were for!  Nice job!
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.
