Not 100% sure yet, but most likely.

Land in Glasgow and stay with Aunt.
Hire a car.
Lanarkshire ( where my lovely wife was born )
Mull.
Up to the ferry and over to the Hebrides.

Now, I need some help on what to do and see in between ! I'd love to see some history, some model shops, and maybe a pint or two with a modelling buddy ! Shame all the Scottish RAF bases are closing....

CANADA KICKS arse !!!!

Long Live the Commonwealth !!!
Vive les Canadiens !
Where's my beer ?

You could go across to the (Scottish!) National Museum of Flight at East Fortune and drop into Edinburgh on your way back.
http://www.nms.ac.uk/our_museums/museum_of_flight.aspx

Model shops - Wonderland in Edinburgh, Jamiesons in Glasgow.

Mull - find the burial place of Lachlan Macquarie, renowned Governor of New South Wales, acclaimed as the 'Father of Australia'. Admire the colourful houses in Tobermory and wonder why it looks so much like Balamory ;)
There's a lot of whisky to be sampled out there....  :drink:

Fort William for the Commando memorial and museum, climb Ben Nevis if you have the strength, see Bonnie Prince Charlies monument near the Harry Potter Hogwarts railway viaduct at Glenfinnan.

Stirling Castle has a wonderful history of the Scottish wars and the local regiments, famous for the Thin Red Line of the 93rd Sutherland Highlanders at the Battle of Balaklava.

Ardnamurchan Point is the closest you get to Canada while on mainland Scotland!

Lossiemouth isn't closing, but it's a fair old step from Glasgow, plus it means travelling along the heavily GATSO'd A9 as well. :(

theres not that many gatsos on the A9 Kit. one set between Dunblane and Perth, and three sets between Perth and Pitlochry. No more fixed units north of that :) Mind you unmarked police wagons are a problem lol. Including the turbocharged Ford Transit van they some times deploy.
I always hope for the best.

experience has taught me to expect the worst.

Head to the south west and visit the birth place of Rabbie Burns, Scotlands great national Bard, visit the Scottish and Oceanic Air Traffic Control Centre at Prestwick (if invited by a  suitable person ) and I will certainly buy you some decent beers

There's always a Hebridean trip to  Barra, land on the beach at low tide.  Or if you have time, head south and do Dumfries and Carlisle air museums.  Or if you have lots  of tome, the Orkney isles are fascinating........but there's an Orcadian on this forum who can describe things better than I can!

Ah sorry, they're radar triggered speed cameras, named after the Belgian rally driver from the 50s and 60s called Gastonides who invented them, the ratbag! The majority  of them are metal boxes about 2ft square and 18" thick mounted on poles about 10 ft high and painted bright yellow. Sadly some of them are also hidden behind trees etc, which is actually illegal, but who's going to stop them?

In some counties they are switched off these days, but in others there are some many you can walk from one side of the county to the other by stepping from GATSO to GATSO without touching the ground!

There's a patch like that around Stoke on Trent.  A 20 mile stretch with a camera on each side of the road at half mile intervals...............and when I was last down that way, there were so many road works that exceeding 15 MPH was unlikely!!

Staffordshire was the county I had in mind when I wrote that. There's one point on the A38 that you can see EIGHT of the blasted things at the same time without even turning your head!  :banghead:

It always makes me smile when someone has decorated one of the GATSO cameras with a burning tyre.

So, if you were silly enough to speed along that stretch of road, would you get 8 fines or just 1 fine?

Its not surprising that people react with civil disobedience in the face of this level of government surveillance.  Do these cameras often get damage/destroyed?
