I can attest to that, he was walking and talking near Durham on Thursday evening.  ;D

Not both at the same time I assume ?  ;D

PR19_Kit

Yes, both at the same time, while he was giving me the guided tour of The Hangar.

Hi
Just to let you know that Its been suggested by some of the newer members that are new to the hobby that the club opens more nights a month so they can get some experience and help with builds as they don't think once a month is enough, so from this Thursday the club will be open every Thursday night (6-8pm), with the first Thursday of the month still the main night (6-9pm).
I think this is a great idea as the club I was a member of in Hampshire when I was a kid did the same, keeps the interest going as well as being helpful.
So no excuse for not knowing which Thursday its on, I know I'll be there with model and glue in hand.

Exactly mate. One problem the hobby has is that it is difficult for newcomers, especially adult ones, to get advice on and pick the basic skills up, especially if you only meet once a month.

There is, you realise this new-fangled thing called the "Internet"?   Thats where I get my new skills from.  In particular the advice on this site has proved very valuable.   Clubs are, I would suggest mostly for socialising, rather than skills transference.  They are also unfortunately in my experience all too often for empire building.    :banghead:

Don't take that as discouragement.  Just an embittered observation.

Appreciate your comments but there are some things that are better explained in a hands on way in my experience. Especially the basics. I agree that meeting once a month means things tend to be more social, and there's now't wrong with that, but meeting more regularly might help with the picking up of basic skills.

I'm with Chris on this, meeting face to face with models right there in front of you can be much more effecient in gaining skills and information. Questions can be followed by appropriate answers immediately and using the model itself to discuss a technique is so much more handy than a long winded search for information I find.

And just to extend the hand of friendship (shut up, Trevor!)
Cleveland meet first and third Wednesdays of each month at
Sunnyfield House in Guisborough, 19:30 - 21:30.
Kit, if you get to Aycliffe  regularly and you're at a 'loose end'
of a Wednesday, come over, A66 to Redcar then turn right! (Beware the webs!)
Oh, all right then, just 'cos yer from the wrong side of the Tyne, the invitation is extended to Wooksta

Paul, thanks for the invite.

I wouldn't say I'm at Aycliffe regularly but I am there 5-6 times a year when they need my arcane railway engineering skills at Shildon. Usually I'm there on a Friday but it depends on what they want doing and, amazingly, if there are any school visits on at the museum! Apparently the local Health & Safty manadrins have decreed that we can't do any 'engineering' when there's a school visit happening!  :banghead:
