This is for the SMW SIG 1941GB.
No Backstory yet, no other pictures yet.
I did get it started to-day, the American relatives who have been using the "modelling" room to reside in were visiting the Burn's country, so I grabbed a little bit of modelling time.

Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

I like it, so far. Are you going to put appropriately longer tailplanes on? I might be able to help you with some, there. Luckily both the mainplanes and tailplanes are "stubby" and can easily adapt to longer span.

re: backstory---the German Ju-86P high-altitude bomber (REALLY extra-longer wings there!) was overflying Britain with impunity for awhile, so yours and the eventual RW Spitfire high-altitude interceptor are in the running!
My mind is like a compost heap: both "fertile" and "rotten"!

The clue of the usage is in the Mark no. 'HPR1'....

For sure it'll have a camera package somewhere on its person, and there's LOTS of room for them in a Hurricane fuselage. It always surprised me why the real PR Hurris had that bathtub thing grafted on underneath when there was so much room inside.

this is a new definition of genuine that I was previously unaware of :wacko:
The Back story will refer to three airframes that were modified in Malta, two as pure PR jobs and one that was planned as a High flying escort for them that was susequently not required.
Glasgow is pushing it a bit.

Aye indeed. For the sake of the model I do think it will have to have the bath tub thingy but any suggestions are welcome.

There's so much room in the rear fuselage behind the cockpit I'm sure at least 3 x F24 size cameras would fit, just as in the PR Spitfires but with more space to spare. The PR Spits had two vertical cameras, slightly splayed and one port oblique camera pointing out of the window just aft of the cockpit, but some aircraft had the oblique cam pointing to starboard.

For a model it would just be a case of drilling the ports and filling them with Kristal Kleer after painting. You could also mount a couple of short focal length cams in the wing gun bays. As the Hurricane had all four of its guns on each side in one place that would make a neat place to fit a camera, maybe with a fairing below the wing to take the lens?

Very nice so far, but then anything that will take the Hurricane design further is good with me. :thumbsup:

I wonder how much influence the fabric covered back end of the Hurricane had when it came to deciding how to mount cameras onto it.

Did the all metal construction of the Spitfire fuselage provide greater strength and weight bearing that allowed for internal cameras that the fabric on frame construction of the Hurricane would not?

Or perhaps it was simpler to cut holes for mounting lens windows in metal than it was to do so in fabric?

You may well be right about the 'cutting holes' business.

The Hurricane's rear fuselage had LOTS of small tubes converging on each other, and while attaching a carrying frame to them to hold the cams might be easy, cutting a hole for the largish lenses to look out could have been difficult. With the Spitfire's stressed skin construction in the same area they just had to rivet a ring frame in place and cut a hole in the middle.
