Will the Whiffies continue?

All,
Just did a quick count through the Whiffies nomination thread and not sure the Whiffies will continue.

As of right now, there are only 7 categories that have enough entries to meet the minimum required 5 entries.
Prop, Jet, scratch (has 5), conversion, Camo (has 5), alternate markings and Sci-fi (has 5).  Armor has 3 so could get to 5 before the year is over.

Kind of supports my thought that this has mainly been a Phil's Favorites contest.

Even with all I have dealt with this year in my personal life, I am still up for running this contest but if there isn't enough interest from the rest of you, I don't see the point.  I will keep checking the nomination thread and make my decision later in the year.

Would like to hear what you all think.

I enjoy them and I have been meaning to nominate more, hope to get that done in the next 24 hours or so

Hi Phil

I like the Wiffies and admire the effort you put into it. Unfortunately as you say it's only a few who actually nominate things. Must admit I've slowed since I now can't copy a pic to my pc and upload direct. Just tend to link to the origional article when I nominate.

Whatever decision you come to is fine by me as you do have to put a lot of effort into the thing and if the support isn't there it can be soul destroying.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

I`ll admit I`m also guilty of not nominating as much as I should so I`ll make more of an effort and be more proactive in this area.

I like the whiffies so I`m hoping they don`t come to an end. Always felt that these awards gave you something to aim for at the end of the year.

I appreciate all the effort you put into the Whiffies Phil, but in all honesty, I don't have enough time to just read everything I want to read on the site, and do all the modelling I want to do, so the amount of time needed to review all the nominations and produce votes is seriously difficult to find.

I sure hope the WhiffiesTM will continue!  :drink:

I was even about to suggest a new category: Czech mates! It seems we have a lot of great builds with Czech markings this year.

Must, then, my projects bend to the iron yoke of a mechanical system? Is my soaring spirit to be chained down to the snail's pace of matter?

How about this for an idea?

Why don`t we have volunteer members to cover each subject? For instance two members would cover aircraft, two would cover Sci Fi, etc, etc,

This way all the subjects could be covered over the year. The reason I say this is because that I personally only ever visit the aircraft section and tend to flick around the other catagories if something catches my eye. I no doubt miss a hell of a lot of builds but other members may be the opposite to me and visit the ship thread and not the aircraft thread.

Obviously any member could chip in and nominate but we would at least have a core unit looking after the various threads.

Does that make sense?

i sure hope they continue................when i first joined up they were in full swing that year and i really enjoyed seeing 'the good stuff'........i think they are a great form of 'forum awards'........seen all sorts of ways of doing it over on various forums and think its one of the best ive seen......it also serves as a focal point which brings the forum together even if its only for a short period of time

im guilty as everyone else in that i havnt nominated any thing and thats entirely my fault...............life has been getting in the way of a lot recently, model making included.........and recently i have been doing a lot of RW stuff..........i just dont have the time like i used to.......just logged in and found 6 pages of new posts........i simply had to skim and read what looked interesting so i miss stuff

will try and do better  ;D

I like the wiffies and don't want to see them stop. However  the inability to upload a pic directly has stopped me nominating for this, and also from posting pics of builds.

i genuinly dont understand why so many people say that as a reason for not posting pics etc...................what is so hard about using an off-site host?.....what do you do on other forums that dont have their own pic loading capability?

Re the above comment, the few other forums i am a participant in have on site image hosting, definately makes things simpler especially when limited in access time due to other commitments etc. I guess ill just have to get my photobucket folder sorted out to enable image posting here :banghead:

i have noticed the number of model posts have dropped off drastically ever since image hosting was stopped on the site ! i know the mods have concerns re the lack of model posts, maybe this is one contributing factor ?

Sorry Phil, I totally forgot about nominating stuff this year!  :banghead:
Just added three I really liked and I'll have a look through some that I thought about too, if I can find them!

I think it is simply the fact that you have an extra process involved. If you don't normally use off site hosting to hold your photos then it becomes an extra step. If you automatically load to an off pc host then it's not a problem. Just another symptom of this busy world we all live in and one I in all honesty find a chore.

PS Like Geoff I also don't use other fora

Just do what I've been doing recently. Post a link to the origional thread. I know Alistair (Gondor) does this as well
