I know I am a very fast modeller. I know that a lot of people spend weeks, months or years on models. I know this often means they make better models than me. I know I don't have the attention span.

I've been working on a scratch built 15mm scale (about 1:120) shuttle for my blog. I started work about 8:00am, it's now just after noon, and the basic model is almost done. This has to be some sort of scratchbuilding speed record.

What's the fastest you've ever built a model? Was it the One Week GB? Have you ever finished a project in a weekend? Or a day? Or an afternoon?

The last time I built a model in a day, it looked like either Godzilla had attacked it or it had been built by Salvador Dali.

My fastest build was a Revell Germany Me-262 A-1, which I built in 8 hours. I might have built some others in a shorter time period, but that's the fastest build that I can remember.

Try doing it in 4 hours with parts given to you by  someone else and a base kit or something made of plastic that you have to make something out of. Thats what happenes every year at Wonderfest in Louisville Kentucky. Its a sci Fi modeling convention and last year the team I was on won the most bizzare taste in modeling award for our effort. The model has to be designed, built and painted in 4 hours with what they give you. This year they gave us a Mobeous models Spindrift kit from Land of the Giants ( The small one),A model of the shutlecraft from Stargate Atlantis and a Monogram 1/72nd scale F-19 stealth fighter. here is a picture of our entry. Its the one with the big wing attached to the end in black

Still got to make a Wonderfest one year.

Been doing the Blitzbau's over at UAMF for the last couple years, 24 hours to build a kit start to finish.  Have actually finished 3 of the 4 I entered.  Here is what I got done in the last one a little earlier this year:

The new Zvezda 72nd scale kits.  Did both guns, figures and dios in under the 24hr time.

Quickest models were done back when I was in my late teens in Montana.  We used to do a quick build contest in the mall.  One year I did a large scale motorcycle (still got some of the bits) and another year I did the Revel 1/32nd Huey Cobra kit.  That one I actually took first with.  No airbrushes or super glue used but it was pretty much rattle can OD for just about everything.

While I'd be the first to admit that I'm not a quick builder I've also taken part in the Blitzbaus over on the UAMF. I think the 24 hour timespan helps you concentrate on the job in hand.

Here's the last one I completed.

It's a 1/72 PM Lippisch P.13a, not a lot to it but I did a bit of extra detailing and it did have some fit issues.

Strewth, I'm lucky to finish building anything in less than a month!  :o

Most of mine stretch into multiple months, and more than one has gone on for years, but the longest took 26 years to finish!
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Kit

Managed to get one finished in 24 hours for a GB once, but normally I struggle to finish the One Week GB here and I'm retired  :banghead:
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

think the fastest ive ever built any thing was a Tamiys 1/24 Lotus 7 in a 48 hour blitz GB somewhere (actually finished it in about 42 hours....glue was still drying as i took pics  ;D )

these days i prefer to take my time and do things properly

fastest was in under a hour from start to finish, as a demo to some kids on how to put a airfix spit together to try and get them to do something else than playstations, at a local youth club
Me, I'm dishonest, and you can always trust a dishonest man to be dishonest.
Honestly, it's the honest ones you have to watch out for!!!

This is what I've done in 12 hours, start to finish (about eight hours actual modeling, possibly less)

Just the 1 Week GB for me, I've only managed it once & it was very tight.  I've attempted stuff quicker, but never seems to work out for me.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Built this `whif` MiG-15 Nightfighter for the `speed build` GB earlier this year and IIRC total `plastic time` was around 9 hours.

While normally my builds take months due to work beer ect... I did complete a Games Workshop Land Raider in less than a day for a friend, i had a time table because it was needed for a game that weekend... I cheated the time scale by using all superglue... Rattle canning the main colour then finishing off with the details :)

That Mig is one that shouts at me to try and attempt the same thing myself. Just a KISS build with a wonderful scheme that adds one more red star to the collection   I am a very slow builder because I do too  many projects at once. I am getting more decisive though, so I am getting faster. Racking my brain to think of the fastest build I have done and I am not coming up with anything. Thats a problem! Built a figure in a day, about 15 years ago!

Got my thinking cap on now though.... Want to do a speed build
