Humor in modeling

For a long time I have had an interest in showing humor with models.  My Moo-rine and Carpet Monster Trophy are just 2 of the ideas that I have that have actually been finished.  There are several others on the list to get to some time.  One of our local builders also has a fantastic sense of humor and much more talent than me to pull off his ideas.  From Farside Caveman vignettes to the use of atomic weapons in wargames he has done some fantastic stuff. Alvis is another who can tickle my funny bone with his creations.

Another source of inspiration has come to me from T-shirts.  One showing the Delorean from Back to the Future running into Dr Who's Tardis might actually get built as part of the SFSFTB.

Here are a few of the others I have collected recently.

So, what are some of the ideas you have completed or have thought of (or found) that put a smile on your face (not that kind of smile).

Actually every Whiff model I build brings a smile to my face.  ;D

They'll all built with a sense of humour factored into them, besides any 'serious' intent involved, of which there's very little!
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

I try to inject some humour into most of my back stories, but not always. But the model which got me the most feedback for humour, on a few different boards, was inspired by a Monty Python skit best known for the line "My hovercraft is full of eels!"

There is nothing funny about scale modelling, it is a task to recreate accurate and honest depictions of vehicles as they really existed, and in perfect, 1000000% rivet counting perfection.

...and then I woke up screaming!

Wow, that was scary!
Frankly, I'm pretty sure I'm a frustrated stand up comedian, who uses styrene to get my points across.

One of the reasons I very VERY rarely post to the WargamerAU forum is that it appears to be populateed by the JWN. I linked Terrain For Hippos from a post, and got complaints about it's frivolous nature!
This is why I hang out here. No one complains about my frivolous nature.
I do have a T Shirt depicting the traditional rise of man picture (you know, the ape, then the ape man, then the not so much ape, and more man, then the man all walking along) with the Homo Sapiens cowering under the crushing foot of a giant and angry robot. Could be a fun little model.
There are no good kits, bad kits or grail kits, just kitbash fodder.

I had a Sunday Garfield posted in my room, many many many years ago, of Jon attempting to build a model ship with Garfield narrating.  Lord knows if I can even remember what date it was from :?

Excuse me?

We're talking about a bunch who play games with small models of beings that never existed and they're complaining about YOU being frivolous????

Give me strength...........  :banghead:

Absolutely.
For many years there were long-running arguments in the two main (UK) wargame magazines. Those who wanted fantasy and SF games included and those who were "serious" gamers. The latter never stopping to realise that ANY deviation from a historic result automatically turned it into a fantasy/ what if game. I.e. there's no point playing an factually historical game as a game.
There were even suggestions that fantasy and SF games should be the exclusive province of fantasy and SF magazines, while not understanding that by that argument "serious" games should be in the likes of JDW or historical mags: thereby deleting the need altogether for wargames mags.

Fortunately wargaming is considerably less stratified in this regard, but there are still those who hold exclusively to one position or the other.
What if... I had a brain?

Oh, no one objected to the models, they objected to the hippo.

Hmmmm, Wargamers.au -- that bunch are less imaginative and more "you can't challenge the Book" than the most fanatic religious maniac :-\

thank goodness, rationality reins here
you may as well all give up -- the truth is much stranger than fiction.
