The 60's - Age of the triangles

  It was not long before the Eastern bloc responded to the B-51 and 52 designs, but they in fact began a trend in flying wing design that was in fact coming in several nations. The delta wing design of Alexander Lippisch of Germany was a bit easier to adapt to the flying wing concept but it really had to wait its turn as the straight sweep wing designs all developed and exited the pipeline at their subsonic speeds. A great impetus to get the delta flying wings into development was the success of the Avro Vulcan, an almost flying wing craft which was noted by many nations.
 
  While Cheranovski and Tupolev had been the greatest forces to date in Russian Tail-less, the new design that took the spotlight was from the newer firm of Myasischev (with a bit of behind the scenes help from designer Bartini) and so the west was stunned to see this shape race over the 1961 May Day parade.

 A card model with wood parts, the B-72 Valkyrie wing was a flying wing design that would exceed the Vulcan and the M-200 by use of the compression lift aerodynamics, using its adjustable outer wing panels droop to catch the lift wave, the 72' was the fastest bombing craft, matched only by the later Concorde penetrator series and the Sukhoi T-4MS.
 
 In retrospect, it was a bit naive of me to equip a mach 3 plane with externally hung skybolts and fuel, don't you think ?

Those Russian Doritos are just fantastic! What's particularly eye catching of all your designs are the amazing paint jobs. Just the right amount of scale fading and wear and tear.

  20 years ago... I was actually working at IBM doing graphic layout design, essentially the 3D landscape that exists inside microchips, in their case the first PowerPC 601 processor and the CMOS 4 logic family that went with it. A few years after that, went with Intel, great similarity and crossovers between the two- and put parts inside Pentium, Itanium (IA-64) and the Celerons and the Cores series. Things like ALU's and buffers and a whole bunch of PLL's DLL's and other acronyms. Part of a big team of vector shape pushers of course.
   Never did work at Northrop Grumman, but they were right down the street from us, and their building even had a stealth sign. The sign was satin black and the logo was in darkest semi-gloss blue on this in tiny Helvetica type. They were making wing assemblies- the place was built like a fortress and guarded like one. It closed 6 years ago and the environmental remediation took a couple of years to complete. Rumors are that the place moved- knowing American business, probably to China  along with my and many other's computer careers...............
