By way of explanation for my rant:
:banghead:
This has been me working on a museum-quality real-world USS NJ in 1/700 at a very specific point in 1983. I have reached the point where I'm snapping off bits as I build it, and I keep finding things I need to add, and I screwed up the paint job on the after deck, and the Shtoof refuses to allow me to glue bits on, and then I still need to complete the USS Midway to go with it and I'M DRIVING MYSELF NUTS. Today, I declared it done once I've repaired the port anchor and created the refueling nozzle, and will post pictures soon.

HOWEVER, there was a point I forgot to include in my original posting, something that revived my whiffing instincts, and a surprise to me that will tweak the nose of JMNs. Here's an example.

http://www.msc.navy.mil/N00p/pumahelos.htm

The United States Military Sealift Command is using old Puma helicopters for vertical replenishment aboard USNS supply vessels for the USN, painted white. At first I thought these were UN helicopters being supplied and fueled by the USNS ships, but a quick search found that they are actually being used in service. I haven't been able to find out why this happened, or when, and why they chose to go with refurbished French helos instead of new or reworked US-built models.
Now all I need are a Puma of the right vintage and a minor twist to history that causes them to be repainted in USN camo and markings.

As for those meddling kids, I'm scheming how to get them into my hobby room and OFF MY DAMN LAWN before they break their fool necks!

Thank you for letting me vent.

Vent away..... ;D

Re the Pumas, it's a civilian commercial contract, so presumably Evergreen Helicopters picked the type for commercial reasons: http://www.msc.navy.mil/N00p/pressrel/press04/press17.htm

Wonder how they go on in flying conditions that can/should ground civilian aircrews? Service personnel can be ordered/asked to volunteer to take all sorts of risks, but civvies not only can't be, but lay themselves open to legal/regulatory action if they do.....

What do they mean "pioneered the vertical replenishment concept with the Navy in 1995"? Is he daft, unaware, or was the sentence taken out of context?

I've got my new Squadron catalog, so I'm on the way back to fun!  :drink:

Presumably Mr Bork has a narrow band filter on his historical input antenna, it only responds to stuff prefixed 'Evergreen'. Nothing new there of course......

Okay JoeP, here's whatcha gotta do:

1) Get whatever is considered by 'experten' to be the best Bf-109 model ever made

2) Construct it superbly and super-detail it

3) Do the most epic paint job on it

4) Everything in parts 2 and 3, while expertly done, should be WRONG WRONG WRONG! (wrong seat belts, wrong details for the version, wrong paint job, etc.)

5) Write a story about the model and the pilot, getting as much wrong as you can

6) Post high quality pictures of it to as many modeling sites as you can

7) Sit back with a case of beer and wait for the fun to start

Then let us in on the fun too, we'll be with you all the way!

Absolutely! hear hear, Mr. rat !

To make the magnifying glass JMN's go bats*** , replace all of the 87's inside the fueling triangle stencils with an 86'.

And a big pair of fuzzy dice hanging from the Revi.... cup holders....a whoopie cushion on the pilot seat...

I just picked up a Hobbycraft CF 100 (Mk V?) in 1/72 scale, I have some "fun" ideas - clip the wings a bit, fuel tanks ala F-80, some sort of Eastern Europe decals . . . .

Suggestions, Tongue in cheek, that is?

I think we need many days and more than a case of beer. Woahahahaha (evil smile) I'm plotting something, at a forum I know, full of JMN.
Including with "historical documentation"

Just corrected a mistake, '1 and 2' should of course read '2 and 3'. But the sentiment remains the same.

Well... I don't know.    That might be _too_ evil.

I think I'll have a couple bottles of wine instead; more hoity-toity and all that.

Hmm, back story, back story. MeBf-109, German-level detail but completely inaccurate. Didn't Baron Richthofen have a famous pilot for a son who fought for the ??? in ???.

Yes, and also supposedly relatives who were involved in the modern BundesLuftwaffe, along with some War 2 types like Jos. Kammhuber.

That could be a trick for the JMN's, put modern crosses (low visibility to boot!) on that pest-entry 109.

Use immaculately researched RLM colours and scheme, but reverse the colours, i.e put the green where the grey should be and vice-versa...

If a large scale plane and you can brew decals... Take all of the stencils in Fraktur (darkletter font) and put them in Helvetica and those in simple text and put into Fraktur or better yet - Gallic!
