Thanks, Pablo!

Building has stalled, now .... but in a good way....  ;D

I've ordered in another kit from which I am removing the engines & using them to replace the 3,500 hp (2,611 kW each) Pratt & Whitney R-4360-20's. :-\

Each new engine is rated at 5,100 shp (3,800 kW) thus providing better payload/short-strip operations. ;)

And what engines would they be?

Now, Brian, that'd be telling & would spoil the surprise! ;D

Let's just say it's still a 4-cycle (suck - squeeze - bang - blow)..................... Sorta!

OK, so no turboprops then?

5k HP? Mmm, not many of them around in the reciprocating line...

I was going to draw this out & surprise you, Brian, but I'm bored with the waiting for the kit to arrive.

I was using an engineer/mechanics trick - almost all combustion engines (as opposed to rockets & compressed gas engines) are 4-cycle (even 2-strokes).

Gas turbines intake (suck) air in at the front, that air is compressed (squeezed) by the "compressor" blades, this compressed air is then forced into the combustion (bang) chamber where it is ignited and the heated air is ejected (blow/n) out of the rear of the engine providing both thrust & power to the intake & compression turbines - & the propellor blades in the case of a turboprop.

So, yeah, it's a turboprop......... Damn, that so spoils the "ta-dah" effect. :banghead:

Thanks, Stargazer! ;D

Building has not quite stalled, yet, & I'm trying to keep it moving. However, I've come to the conclusion that I don't like the engines .....  :-\ ..... Something must be done!
Turbo prop it, you know you want to really. ;D

Hooray! My new engines have arrived!  ;D

Have one cut for fit testing & I do believe I really like the look (so far).

I'll take a photo of the 2nd one before I give it the chop - maybe have a minor quiz re: what aircraft (although that shouldn't be too hard).

Add to that the Frankenwhif fodder that has also arrived & I'm on the move!

Cheers!

Guy.

OK, nothing special.

We have the original engine placed next to the one I've just begun to work into the build.

Here are the pic's!

They'll be off a late model Hawkeye then, yes? That can't have been cheap!  :o

Very good, Kit!

Fujimi's E-2C Hawkeye 2000 "Liberty Bells" kit.

About AU$25, including it's share of p&h of the order from HLJ, which is reasonable even if it ain't exactly cheap; but not only do I get 2 great engines for this build, I also get a huge bunch of other things to use for other builds.... including 2 parts that make the entire wingspan of the Hawkeye, a weird disc, a rather odd fuselage, a bizarre tail unit & various scoops, 4-blade props, undercarriage, etc.

I have the 2nd engine cut, now, & some gluing & pre-putty packing done, too. So progress is progressing! :P

It's darn cheap compared to what it would cost us here in UK!!!!!

AU$25 works out as UKP 16.25, and to buy the kit from Big H in Lowestoft would cost FOURTY SIX POUNDS!  :banghead:

Someone, somewhere is being VERY greedy methinks!

Hasn't changed much Kit, some time ago I bought a couple of High Planes kits from Big H, cost was like GBP 25.00 + postage (and this was when it was about Can$2.40 to the pound), a little while later I discovered the High Planes website and saw the kits were Aus$25.00 and that was when Aus$1 was equal to 75-80 cents Canadian.  Guess who got cut out of the equation when I bought more High Planes kits ---
