Just got the Airfix Newsletter No.20 in which they announce the reissue of the Angel Interceptor. The blurb describes it as being a VTOL design. I do not remember that at all, in fact I am sure that my memories show it having a catapult style take-off.
Any thoughts folks?

Sic biscuitus disintegratum!

They are just physical manifestations of collisions between enigma & conundrum particles.

IIRC it was a CTOVL design. It landed "vertically" by hanging nose-up and "landing" on a vertical section of Skybase which then dropped back to horizontal.

And a cutaway for anyone wanting to "super detail" the kit.

In the series the landing ramp didn't go vertical, seemed more like 45 degree's. IIRC they only showed the landing once, can't remember the episode though.

Hehehe, somehow having 'Danger Zone' as background music seems totally bizarre! Wrong gender crew for a start!

What's that thing they're escorting at around 1:30 secs?

Thanks for the video link Nils!
Think Bandai did a kit of the SPJ.
That Airfix blurb about the Angel kit sounds more like the descrition of the new series plane, not sure if they had a VTOL capability but defo have two engines.
Would love some kits from the new series, obviously the new Angel and Vampire fighters (RCAF and USAF) and I'd like one of those giant Russian tanky things too!

Well given that Cloudbase is presumably moving at a fair lick, it's not so much a "landing" as a "docking": the Angel must be in a near or post-stall maneuver, but still in forward flight. I wouldn't much fancy flying a post-stall aircraft through the turbulence behind that raised ramp though... Still this is Gerry Anderson World, so stuff works 'cos it looks cool... ;D

For the last hour or so I've been trying to buy one (or more....) of these from the Airfix web site, but they '....can't authenticate your debit card....' both which have more than adequate funds in their respective accounts.  :banghead:

Perhaps Airfix read this forum and don't like my ideas of long span Angel Interceptors?

Thanks for the kind offer Tim, but when I logged on this morning I find Airfix have now accepted TWO of my orders and I now have SIX of the things coming! I'm trying to stop one order but I suspect I'm about to become the Forest of Dean's only Angel Interceptor stockist..........
