seen that there was no topic for the NH90 yet, thought i make one.
with revell releasing the NFH and the TTH (already available for some time), what are the whiff posibilities of this helicopter.

ive already seen artwork for Special Forces versions, ect.

i have noticed that revell has kept the original prototype noses/parts in the sprue.
i think those would make a great civilian version, stripped of all military equipment, would be pretty good for off-shore oilrig flights, policework, fire fighting, intercity Shuttle, VVIP....
would give Eurocopter a good replacement for the AS332 and EC225, maybe under the designation EC190 or EC290  ;D

on the bench:

-all kinds of things.

Stealth version a la the modified Black Hawk used in Pakistan?

Well a good Whiff would be Royal Navy and British Army variants as they were in the program but dropped out and have gone with their smaller Wildcat instead.

from chatting with NH.90 pilots at the recent Turku and Kauhava shows, the Finnish Army have a requirement for a CSAR. variant with, initially, IR. suppressant exhausts, door mounted guns, and to follow, stores pylons for fuel and weapons. a provisional requirement is for in flight refuelling capability too

Be interesting to see NH90 as a Puma HC1 replacement for the RAF

Cobra

I've been tempted by the NH90,thinking about getting it and Turning it into an ASR(Air Sea Rescue) unit. Think it would work for that? or as a Customs Enforcement Helo? just some ideas for Cosndieration. Dan

I thought that was the role of the Merlin?

Nope the MMerlin replaced the Wessex in RAF service as a Troop Transport, The Puma's soldier on still although they should have been replaced by the Blackhawks and then NH-90, before both deals were cancelled. They will probably eventually end up with some form of Augusta/Westland A139/149 variant to keep the Yeovil factory ticking over once the Wildcat have replaced the Lynx.
The Merlin HC-3 will tansfer over to Royal Navy control in the near future as replacements for the Sea King Commandos, although they should have actually replaced them during the noughties with New Build HC-3 configured for naval ops by the previous Govt  :banghead:

Maybe given the cost of Navalising the Merlin I suspect that project may stop. There will be a great availability of Sea King spares so I could see HC4 soldiering on for a while longer. Especially if the Puma HC2 work stop rumours are correct.

Caveman

nope, SDSR has laid down the law. Sea Kings are going (all of them) by 2016. Pumas are going to run their course and be dropped at some point. The Merlins ARE going to be prised from the RAF and will be upgraded/modified for naval use (which frankly they should have been from the start).

So apart from the Wokkas, what choppers will the RAF have?

Sounds like it could look a bit empty at Benson before much longer...........
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Thats it Chinooks, Merlins in the Navy and Wildcat split between Navy & Army

However i wouldn't be surprised to see an Augusta Westaland order for AW149 to replace the Pumas eventually, to keep Yeovil ticking over after the Wildcat program is complete

So who's going to cover SAR around the country then?

Or does the fact that we have no Nimrods to search at long range negate the need for actually rescuing anyone who happens to b e in trouble?   :banghead:
