Sea Tornado!

What if the CVA-01 class carriers had gone ahead? My guess is the Royal Navy would have joined in on the MRCA project for a replacement for both the Phantom and Buccaneer, and thus the Sea Tornado was born!

Unlike the dedicated strike and interceptor versions for the RAF, the naval Tornado was expected to perform both roles, and in the end the decision was made to make it a single-seat fighter, utilising the extra space to incorporate all the necessary avionics without having the stretched-nose or the ADV. The Sea Tornado entered service in 1980, and saw it's combat debut during the Falklands conflict of 1982, flying from the aircraft carrier HMS Queen Ann. A total of 36 Sea Tornados were deployed, and quickly established air superiority over the ageing Argentinian air force, shooting down 32 Argentine aircraft in air-to-air combat with only two air-to-air losses, both to Argentine Dagger fighters.

Here is my Sea Tornado c.1982, in all-over Non-Specular Sea Blue, made from a Airfix GR4 kit -  and in formation with it's RAF cousins!

That looks excellent, and totally off-the-wall too.   ;D

I like the single seat adaption, it works remarkably well.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

It's a Hornet canopy - I just went through the spares box until I found one that fitted :)
