I am a bit concerned about the fuel situation, given the distance I have to cover. As long as I can top up between Penrith and Stoke I will be OK for the round trip. (The joys of having just bought a Diesel )

P.1111 - now has undercarriage doors. Just needs it's canopy, plus I'm going to take the pitot probe from the Su-7 and fit it in one of the cannon ports as a stripy test instrument boom.

P.7D - now has a whole bunch of hand-painted Chrome Silver (not as bright as it sounds) panels. Went well - one of the hidden benefits of old-fashioned raised panel lines is that it's really easy to paint up to them. Just needs it's canopy (nearly done), jet pipe and anti-glare panel painting, and decals. Pity it's not the one-week GB...... ;)

That's it. Just got to paint a bit of the canopy and then do the decals this afternoon. Got to give the paint more time to dry, it all feels sticky and my fingerprints are visible if you look closely.

The Wooksta!

Humbrol or Xtracolour?  The latter has a reputation for not drying and I find Humbrol paints these days to be little better than excreble.  They settle in the tin with little or no encouragement, refuse to dry and then gunge up the tinlet quickly.  I keep having to bin tins of matt black as they've gone solid.

Humbrol Matt Black seems to dry in mid air before you can get the stirring stick to the pallette these days. My black stirrer started off a a bit of sprue, but it looks more like Captain Caveman's club now....

The Wooksta!

Every time I buy it, I always buy two, because the first always ends up solid.  Vile paint.

Still, it's better than the enamels that Revell did.

It's both the gloss white enamel spray and the Xtracolour that take ages to set dry but they do look good.

I find that the Xtracrylic Matt Black is good for both coverage and quick drying, the Tamiya stuff is good too. Xtracrylix White takes a lot to cover darker shades and looks more creamy when dry. I'm not buying Humbrol enamels anymore and moving over to Xtracolor/Xtracrylix for pretty much everything. The Revell acrylics are quite nice too.

The Wooksta!

White is always a pain to paint over anything dark.  I tend to use a light coat of grey or do the white first and mask it off.

Never bought the Humbrol sprays and flatly refuse to buy either them or the Tamiya ones.  Far too expensive for what you get compared to Halfords.  Okay, the latter doesn't do camouflage colours but for stuff like your bog standard white, aluminium, black or primers, it's ideal.  Fiat Broom Yellow is a nice match for RAF yellow too.

Tip for painting yellow: undercoat it with light pink.  Been doing that with propellor tips and it means I just have to do the yellow once.

Wish I had known that aweek ago!

Things are going backwards, I decided to do the extra PSR but I ended up breaking the bridge of the canopies nose off in the last strokes of the wet n dry.  Repaired that, and from nowhere a small fragment came off the canopy side, I have absolutely no time to sort that out so it's going to have to stay, might be able to touch it up with paint.  It's down to the wire, but I will finish it!
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

I wonder, are these running commentaries in the interests of Martin's mental health or not?  ;)

It was his grand idea.....  I'm sure we can find him a good strait jacket if needed  ;D

Anyway, I've pretty much finished. The decals look good, I can't be bothered touching up any more spots and all I need do now is the canopy. Might do a coat of Klear if it will dry by Saturday evening when I drive up to Telford, what do you think?

We've missed off one very important aircraft.......A mistake I have corrected by dusting off my example.
