Tim - sorry to hear your news mate: best of luck getting sorted out.

P.1111 : got it's matt coat last night, after spending 3/4 hour trying to get the lid off the bottle....

P.7D: got it's PSR finished and little bits partly painted. I'd forgotten what a cow Lightning canopies are to mask..... :banghead:

The Z.101 has been PSR'd and primed.  I'm not overly happy about the PSR but it was becoming a firefighting exercise, so I'm living with the flaws.  I've taken advantage of some slack time at work to get a base coat on, it's going on a bit orange-peely so I might have to break out the Klear.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Put the first full coat of red on today and it looks spiffing! When I get home tonight I might touch up the red where needed and then move onto masking for the blue coat.
This is what worries me, when I did a test patch under the wings the blue did not paint as evenly as I had hoped. It might be because the white was not quite set at that point and it reacted slightly?

The really worrying part tonight will be removing the masking tape  :o  If the tape lifts the white coat then the whole thing will not be ready for Telford. I can just about cope with painting over any red or blue leaks onto the white, having already got red fingerprints onto the upper wings!

I have tonight, Thursday morning and late evening and then all day Friday to finish.

I forsee lots of models with semi-wet paint at Cosford on Sunday...........  :banghead:

Good news! The de-masking went well and there are very few spots to be covered. The blue spreads fairly well and a second coat tomorrow should do it well. There seems to be a bit of crazing under one wing, hope it doesn't spread.
Clumsy fingers here managed to knock one wheel door off  :-\ but it will fix. Then it's painting the cockpit, nose, landing gear, jet intakes, exhaust pipes and tailhook. Friday will be spent doing decals of which there seem to be a lot!

Should I put Klear varnish on before the decals, after the decals or both?

PR19_Kit

Both, no contest.

The first coat, or coats, gives you a gloss finish so any extra transparent decal coating will tend to be less visible. Klear top coats do the same thing and tend to protect the decals until you've given it the final varnish coating. Of course if it's a gloss finish you're after The Klear does that already.

P.1111 - undercarriage legs on and drying in a jig (they're very fragile)

P.7D - had an overall coat of Humbrol Aluminium. Thought about using Metalcote, but decided it wasn't worth the risk. The intake lip will be bright metalcoat though. Turned out that my tin of Hu.56 was acrylic, not enamel, but luckily, there's no undercoat anyway. Enamel OVER acrylic should be okay, shouldn't it?

The Parasol for the Parasol-winged Spitfire is drying nicely....spraying the Spitfire today, decals tomorrow.
Also I've resurrected a British "Zero-type" in 1/48th...a bit more filler on the nose (no guns there you see) and it'll be a steam-punky version too ....probably painting it at the show..... ;D

Have done fairly well this morning. Painted the exhausts during which I found that the 2 year old Revell Aquacolor Metallic Steel had dried up in the pot, the 15 year old Tamiya Gun Metal was still usable though!
Cockpit given a coat of Barley Grey and looks presentable.
Tonight I break out the black paints for the wheels and nose and cockpit highlights.
Need to touch up the white paint for the landing gear and some spots on the fuselage, curse my wobbly hand!

Decided there wasn't enough blue visible on the fuselage side so remasked and painted it. The red stripe will now sit higher but look better overall.

STUPID MORONS PANIC BUYING FUEL......might have to  miss Cosford unless I can fill up on Saturday.

all it needs are a few muppets and the panic begins....how very 21st century British.

It makes you wonder if this realy is the same country that carved out the largest empire the world has seen so far.......................

P.1111 - figure this out: it's had a coat of matt varnish OVER the decals, yet a stencil decal just came off on my hand and a bit of one of the serials has done too.....   The incredibly fragile undercarriage is currently setting. I managed to drop it on the nosewheel just after superglueing it in, snapping it just below the glued joint.... :banghead: Fotunately, it's superglued back in....

P.7D is currently upside down in a box with it's (mercifully sturdy) undercarriage setting too.
