Now, I am going to stop playing with WhIffing and turn my attention to the 1/1 scale turkey, etc..

What? THIS early?  :o

There's over a week to go yet, or does it happen on a different day 'North of the Border'?  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

He's got to catch the Turkey first
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

I'd say I'd send you a fresh one from ACY, but ours are too smart and off hiding in the woods.

OK Christmas is well over now, and the turkeys are "relatively" safe.
However this model is not!
The nose is looking great, and now it is time to fit the wings.  :banghead:
The Matchbox kit is a B*&$£.
The intake bits, etc. just do not fit well.
I have been lokking at the Hasegawa wings, which are a much nicer moulding, but as I mentioned earlier the fuselages are not the same width.
ARGH!
So this build has stalled for the moment, but I am not giving up yet.

Well, time has passed, but this project continues.
At the time Alistair/AKA Gondor sugested that I use the Revel kit of the 101.
However in my higorance I thought that Revel had only ever done the single seater.
Having had that point corected for me. At Telford this year, Thorvic provided me with the Revel kit of the F-101A, which is a scaled down version of the Monogram kit. It is superb!
So what were the problems with the Matchbox kit?

The canopy had faults moulded into it! Coloured blobs!
Despite my attempts to mould a new canopy, it did not work out.

The cockpit interior was poor, and I could not find any good info on the internet.

However thanks to Thorvic things can now go forward.
So watch this space.

Do you mean the "B", as in the two-seater? It is a lovely kit indeed, though fairly uncommon as far as I can tell. I have one part-built (and part-ruined twice by a fat old cat that thought it a comfy thing to sit on).
Some of my models can be found on my Flickr album >>>HERE<<<

Thanks Alun,

it is indeed the Rf-101B.

You should have said as I could have lent you Detail & Scale Volume 21 which is all about the F-101 Voodoo

BIG THREAD REVIVAL!

I must admit I had not realised I had let this project lapse so long.
So what went wrong?
Well having got to the stage of all the major PSR being done :

I then turned my attention to the canopy.
Apart from the fact that being a Matchbox canopy with it's very protuberant framing my one also had some dark moulding flaws in the rear portion of the glazing.
So I set about moulding a new canopy.
Moulding canopies is something I have done before, and with some degree of success. I use the Male/Female, or Plunge, method, as I do not have a Vac-forming machine. I did make one a long time ago but that is another story.
My attempts this time were however not a success, and so the whole project stalled for a bit.
Then two of the members on this forum (Gondor and Thorvic) mentioned the Revel kit to me, which I was completely unaware of.
Thorvic also offered to supply me with one at a truly excellent price.
This kit is a scaled down version of the Monogram 1/48 kit and it is superb.

My first thoughts were to use the canopy from this kit, adding it to the existing build.
No such luck as they just do not match up.
So it was a case of cut the nose off the build and graft it on to the Revel fuselage.
This was not a happy thought, so for a long time the open box with bits of three kits lay there taunting me.
Eventually, just last week, I worked up the courage to go for it, here are the first cuts.

As you can see the fit of the Hasegawa nose to the Revel fuselage is excellent, so much better than the Matchbox.

Hate to tell ya but I cut the nose off a Hasegawa RF-101C to build a F-101 not long ago.
The two seat RF will look great!

Is the Revell kit the same as the Matchbox kit?
