Project D

Just making the decals so i can get some proper pics tomorrow. I can't think of what its designation would be as an F.3/F.6 hybrid used for testing a rocket motor?

Project D

Finally got some pictures to show

Lightning RF.63 with all its modifactions. Near enough finished now just got to finish the decals and it should be done.

Hope you like it

deathjester

Super plausible!!  I really like the coloour scheme

Project D

Thanks! still got to add a Lightning bolt, Lightning RF.63 lettering and British aerospace markings to finish it off. You can't see in the pictures but i went with a dark silver on the under side of the wings as there was too much white and didn't want to over do the black.

deathjester

Beautiful!  And so is that TSR2 in the background!
As for a name, I don't think you could do better than Kit's suggestion of 'Frightening!  ('cause it would be!)

Project D

I'm thinking Frightning in red and yellow along the fuel tanks?

Just so happened to have a picture of the TSR.2  ;)

deathjester

Nice!!  I'm doing one, with one of Colin's (Freightdog) great big conformal fuel tanks!

Project D

I had planned to use this one with a recon pack but decided to build it as an escort for my other TSR.2 that i'm building as a TSR.2 passenger jet in 41 squadron markings. This started out as the corgi XR219 but i lost the nose cone so replaced it with a shortened Eurofighter nose cone and pylons.

deathjester

Well it looks great - I look forward to seeing it all done!

Project D

Shouldn't be too long, just need to figure out how to do clear canopies like the Torando canopy.

I never thought I'd say this about any Lightning, but that one looks 'SLEEK'!  ;D

I claim no credit for the 'Frightening' title, it was in almost common use amongst the RAF Squadrons that had the pleasure of flying the beasts. I first came across it at a display at Wildenrath where 19 Sqdn. had their F2As in that wonderful all green scheme, and the commentator described a four-ship flypast as a '.....gaggle of Frightenings'  ;D

They were VERY low and very VERY fast!

Thanks Kit, made a Frightening decal to go along the fuel tank today  ;) Hope my next build goes this well, thinking of doing a Meteor with a glass nose as a chase plane for airborne photography of other aircraft. Already found a suitable nose from a ww2 german bomber just need to decide on a single or two seat Meteor to start from and another colour scheme.

Project D

Good news and bad news on this one! the bad news is it's still stalled while i'm trying to print the decals for it. However the good news is i managed to get a p1 fuselage! just need to get another lightning now for parts and i can start on the rocket prototype  ;)

PR19_Kit

Which Mark do you need? I have at least one of each in The Loft...........  ;)

The Wooksta!

P1 flew with both F1-F3 and F6 wings.  IIRC, one of the prototypes has one set, t'other has F6.  Both are extant and museum exhibits, one of which is at Cosford.
