just finished this one, a secret project thats been on the drawing board since the '46 GB.

Heinkel He155A-1A "Kröte"

the design of the He155 goes as far back as 1942, when the RLM made a specification for a new ground attack aircraft and dive bomber to replace the Stuka. in its requirement, it also stated that the aircraft should also posses a secondary air defence capability as a fighter.

Heinkel hired one of Focke Wulf's key designers, Kurt Tank, to help with the development of the aircraft, the design they came up with, was the He155, nicknamed Kröte (Toad), due to its ugly appearance, resembling that of a toad.
but dispite its odd shape, the He155 was heavily armed, it had 3 x 20mm cannons (2 on the nose and one on the centrline bellow the fuselage) and 2 x .50 machine guns in the nose, under the wings there were provisions for bombs, rockets and auxilary feultanks.

the aircraft was powered by 2 Jumo 004 engines and had 3 ramjet rocket  boosters in the tail and wings, enabling it to take of from very short runways or get to altitude really fast, at some point, the He155 even exeded the climbrate of the Me163, eventualy also replacing the type as of november 1946.

a navalised version was also developed for operations from aircaft carriers.
the aircraft first saw action during the invasion of South America, when they were used to fight in the Chile campaign.

The Model:

baseline model was a revell 1/72 FW Flitzer, engines are from a revell 1/72 Me262, tailcone from a scrapped He70 and the V-shaped tailplanes from a FW190.
the noseguns are parts a salvaged from an largly incomplete matchbox B-25 kit (from my uncles colection), bellygun is scratch.

on the bench:

-all kinds of things.

PR19_Kit

That looks SO plausible, just the sort of thing that Heinkel would come up with.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Regards
Kit

its been a while since i last posted some '46 universe models, but just like my 1/144 series of builds, im also planning ahead.
next to the usual Luft'46 models, i also have a few Axis and Allied models in the works.
next to allied France, Britain and USA, im thinking other european countries joined the fight against nazi-germany. immediatly after being liberated they became independant forces, being (re)equiped by the US and Britain, like they did post-war.

these include (all 1/72)

-F8F Bearcat (Danish Air Force, 1945)
-Spitfire F.Mk.22 (Belgian and Netherlands Air Forces)
-DH Chipmunk O.1 (Observation version of the Chipmunk trainer for the RAF, armed with smoke rockets for FAC/target designation)
-SAAB J21 (Swedish Air Force)
-DH88 Comet (Swedish Air Force reccon aircraft)
-Spitfire PR9 (user unknown)
-MIG-15 Fagot (user unknown)
-P-39 Cobra (User unknown, possibly Danish or Australian)
-Bristol Baeufighter Mk.X (thinking Polish Air Force)
-F-86 Sabre (user unknown)
-F4U Corsair (Netherlands Navy, carrier HrMS Ruyter, Dutch east indies)
-DH100 Vampire (Belgian Air Force)
-Douglaas Skyraider (Royal Air Force)

and then there's the already mentioned Luftwaffe aircraft

a bit of an update, i have decided to put my 1/144 buildtheme on the side for a while and concentrate on the larger 1/72 scale models. (especialy since it needs serious slimming).
at the moment, im developing an improved Hawker Hurricane Mk.V, with a stronger merlin engine, 4 bladed prop and heavy air-to-ground armament.
the plan is with the slowed down introduction of the Hawker Typhoon and Tempest i SouthEast Asia and Australia, Hawker uprated a number of Hurrican Mk.IIc's for the allied forces.

a 4-blade prop will be taken from an older scrapped heller Spitfire Mk.XVI, and as for an armament im planning on bombs from a revell hurricane Mk.IIc kit, and rocket launchers from a revell P-51B kit.

the revell 1/72 Hurricane Mk.IIc kit will be used as a basis and exsausts for the merlin 65 are to come from a Airfix Spitfire PRXIX.

pics soon...

research is nearly complete on the development of my next project, the Hawker Hurricane Mk.VI

this version of the Hurricane will be a contineud development of the Hurricane Mk.IIc, witch will feature a more powerfull RR/Packard Merlin 65 engine, a 4-blade prop and an icreased under weapons payload.
building should start in a few minutes, however im still thinking of what scheme, looking at the decals from the revell Mk.IIc kit, i thinkim gonna make this one up in SEAC markings (dont have any of those on the shelves yet).

here's a pic of the drytest, with new exhausts and 4-blade propellor.

Have you thought about a bubble canopy Nils ? There were plans, or at least a drawing of one fitted with one

i got that one planned for a Mk.VIb or Mk.VII version, i still have a bubble canopy left from an airfix DH chipmunk, but im planning on using that on a P-40 to make a P-40Q trainer version

anyway, i just finished the hurri

Hawker Hurricane Mk.VI, Royal Air Force, 28 Squadron.
Dalbumghar, India, South East Asia Command.

in march 1944, the Japanese forces contineus to wreck havoc in South East Asia, the US forces could barely hold them back, the British were running low on effective aircraft. SEAC has asked war office in London to replace its Hawker Hurricane Mk.II's witch were becoming oudated, and requested large number of Hawker Tempest Mk.V's. but London denied that request, saying the aircraft were already urgently needed on the European and South-American front. however, RAF Fighter Command has issued Hawker Aircraft Ltd. with a request to improve the Mk.II aircraft to a new standard, using lessons learned from the ill fated Hurricane Mk.V, many of the flaws of the design were ironed out with they're newly proposed version, the Hurricane Mk.VI.

improvements being made on the exsisting Mk.II variants include a new 4-blade propellor, a more powerfull Rolls Royce Merlin 65 engine, strengened wings and additional armour arround the cockpit. the improvements in performance were significant and SEAC took delivery of 360 Hurricane Mk.VI's between september 1944 and March 1945, witch included some other additional converted Mk.II's from the african command. these fighters served as a stopgap, untul more improved fighters as the Mustang Mk.VI and Hawker Tempests.

the aircraft were very succesfull in the ground attack role, especially during the Battle of Dheli in January 1946, when the Japanese invaded India. Hurricanes destroyed over 1500 Japanese tanks and by August 1946, the Imperial Japanese Army was forced to withdraw from the area.
after the defeat of the Japanese, the Hurricanes were widely used to shoot down incoming Okha kamikaze rocket-fighters, in witch it played a vital role.

the Mk.VI stayed in frontline service until the end of the war in February 1947, witch after then they were used at target towing aircraft until being retired in 1951.

Model:

the model is a Revell 1/72 Hawker Hurricane Mk.IIc, with the engine exhausts and rocket tubes from a revell P-51B, the 4-blade prop came from a scrapped Heller Spitfire Mk.XVI. decals are pretty much OOB from the revell Hurri IIc, the sharksmouth came from revell's 1/72 P-51B.
its only a modest what-if model, but its nice to have a first SEAC aircraft on the shelves

Come out really well Nils  Never thought of US style rocket tubes on a Hurricane
