Rapier is a funny system.  What you're calling "the launcher" actually contains a search radar in the drum shaped centre housing.  The "radar" part you're referring to is actually a Blindfire(tm) engagement radar.   Most SAMs - if they have a radar on their mount - tend to have both the search and engagement radars on the one mount, not as separate units.

I'll check, i did have it at one stage but not sure if i passed it on to one of the other lads when i started to focus more on the ships.

The MCSC kit had the launcher and optical tracker, whilst the blindfire radar was a seperate unit, but it look like its still available from Kingfisher who took other the modern range of MCSC.

What are those Kingfisher kits made of? Resin? Metal?

The original Rapier had search radar on the launcher and a manually-operated optical tracker on a small tripod, making it a fair-weather only system.

Rapier Blindfire was the same as above, but with a target-tracking radar added on an extra trailer, giving it full all-weather capability.

Rapier Darkfire is as-above, but with thermal imaging and 6 missiles.

Rapier 2000/Jernas has a new search radar on a separate trailer,  a ball-shaped EO turret on the launcher and 8 missiles.

Both alot of the finer details are done very neatly in white metal whilst the bulk of it is in resin.

My ex-son-in-law was a Rock Ape on Rapiers too, in the Falklands as well as more peacefull places. He always praised them, reckoned they'd manage to track F-117s during exercises  :o but he was that sort of guy.  ;D

Is that why he's "ex"?  ;D

Downunder, "Rock Apes" I've heard referred to as "Pot Plants" (wear green and they stand in corners) ;D

Nonono, the 'Best Air Traffic Controller in the RAF' and he decided to un-marry themselves, quite peaceably I'm pleased to say.
