Building the AA 1/48th kit of the Shenyang F-8IIM....otherwise known, I think, as the J-8D....not very good at these Chinese designations. To be honest, not bothered either! Anyway,I'm building it as REAL.
I also have another which may appear as either Pakistan AF in the A-5 camo scheme, or possibly Iranian.

BUT...QUESTION??

Was it given a name?

"Slumbering Dragon"?? "Fire Dragon"??  ""Any F*cking Dragon You Like"??

The "Auspicious Dragon"   perhaps?
"If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you....."
It  means that you read  the instruction sheet

Radish

"Auspicious" doesn't sound very Chinese...but hey?

"Slippery When Wet Dragon"?? ;D

'Dragon Chow Mein with Crispy Noodles'?  <_< ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

NATO reporting name is "Finback" IIRC...
Some of my models can be found on my Flickr album >>>HERE<<<

Iranian F-14A

Yea, "Finback B" since the "Finback A" was the twin engine Mig-21 clone.
If you want a vision of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face forever-1984
Current projects:
BAe EAP
OH-58F Kiowa Warrior
S-70C Civilian Hawk
HAL Light Combat Helicopter
S-64 Skycrane Firefighter

Yeah, was looking for a "mythical" connection....

.....made the bulk of it....fits well except for the intakes which have been filled/rubbed down twice. Otherwise OK, but I'll be adding a few lumps and bumps here and there, as well as detailing the cockpit and adding a rsein seat.
I should be ready to prime it at the weekend. It'll have a complete missile load out plus under fuselage tank.
Real and Chinese, and essentially a weathered grey scheme.

The next could well be a ground attack/strike version.
It'd look great in Albanian colours? Or Iranian? Or Iraqi?? Burma??  Pakistan???

Well, in the abscence of something real, lets work laterally.  A Finback is a type of whale, so a quick web search for whales in Chinese mythology brings up Yu-Kiang, a deity that ruled the sea & had the hands & feet of a man with the body of a whale.

QuoteYu-kiang
The ancient Chinese believed that a strange mythological figure, Yu-kiang, held sway over the sea. This dragon-riding water deity had the body of a fish but the hands and feet of a human being. It was not a true fish, however, but a kuan, a huge whale several thousand li long that came from the Northern Sea. Sometimes the monstrous kuan got angry, and when it did it turned into a gigantic bird (p'eng), whipping up terrible storms as it emerged aborve the ocean surface (M. Soymi, in P. Grimal, 1963)

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

So would that make it a 'Yu-Kiang Dragon'?  ;D ;)

If you say that out loud quickly it sounds rude
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Radish

Yu-Kiang Dragon it is....especially if said quickly ;D

"Finback" is the NATO reporting name...BUT it was/is used by the PLAAF and Navy too.
