I'm looking for a book on the Nimrod, is there anything available that describes both the real-world variants (incl AEW3 and MRA4) and proposals?

McColm

I've got a battered issue of 'British Aerospace Nimrod, Modern Combat Aircraft no.24 by John Charles and Ian Allan UK April 1986. ISBN:0711015799. Black and white with a few colour photos, cutouts drawings of the AEW and MR2P.
The book goes into great detail on how the Nimrod was developed into the MR2P.
There is a chapter dedicated to the AEW Saga with test aircraft and 'What next', but no pictures just the authors' view.
I don't know if this book is still in production, I picked up mine in a jumble sale.

Harro, not sure if this helps, but there's a very long chapter about the Nimrod in the Crowwood book 'Avro Shackleton' by Barry Jones.  It's been a while since I read the book, so IIRC, the chapter deals mainly with the AEW variant because of the delays in getting that program up and running and how it affected the continued operation of the Shackleton, way longer than it should have been flying.  I think there's some history to the Nimrod included, but like I say, it's been a while ---

not a lot currently available apart from...

The Nimrod published by Dalrymple & Verdun (9781905414062)
Nimrod: Rise & Fall published by Grub Street (9781908117793)

the former has profiles, lots of pics, and more on the AEW3 & MRA4, the latter is more about Tony Blackman's experiences on the aircraft

Looks like a gap in the market there for one of our authors to fill...

I saw a book on the BAC Three-Eleven today in Bath, not my line of interest so only glanced at it. Graziano Freschi is the author. Interesting stuff about what could have been Britain's own Airbus or 747 competitor.

Oooh that sounds good!

AFAIK our own 'Overkiller' is building one of them, or has plans to anyway.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Stuck in the paint shop AFAIK, and he has the Three Eleven book.

Back on topic the Andy Evans  Nimrod-The Mighty Hunter published by Dalrymple & Verdun covers the Nimrod in service including the MR4A and AEW variants.

There is not alot of project stuff for the Nimrod, the Modern Combat Aircraft cover the proposed export possibilities that were discussed, and an Air Enthusiast/International article did cover the alternative proposals for the original MPA requirement.

The Nimrod AEW variants should be covered in Chris Gibsons "Air Staff & AEW" due to be published later next year
Project Cancelled SIG Secretary, specialising in post war British RN warships, RN and RAF aircraft projects. Also USN and Russian warships

This might be of some help - I found it on my Amazon "Recommendations List" today:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nimrod-Rise-Fall-Tony-Blackman/dp/1908117796/ref=wl_it_dp_o_npd?ie=UTF8&coliid=I32B5JM7740ZRJ&colid=1EOO89MGKXTH5
Blurb quote:
QuoteThe full story of the Nimrod, and its significance, now needs to be told. Tony Blackman, who was there at the beginning, test-flew nearly every aircraft and was at Kinloss on the very day the project was cancelled, has written this timely book, "Nimrod Rise and Fall", covering every facet of its history, its weapons system developments and its tragic accidents.
What if... I had a brain?
