Here we are....
Having always zillions of ideas and projects for a what-if model (and I guess I'm not the only one here...  ), I finally manage to build one....
I've been always playing with the idea of

What-if the X-29 would have gone into production....

Let's assume, that something went wrong with the lightweight fighter project and both XF-16 and XF-17 were finally cancelled.
Big mistake made in Washington, because the Air Force could not afford as much F-15 as they wanted and they're looking for an air/air fighter. Cheaper, very agile and ASAP operational. How good that the NASA was testing FSW X-29....  ;)

Modifications for the Air Force were:

New radar (APG-67) (Taken from the F-20)
Radar Warning System
Chaff n Flares
IFF
ACES II Ejection Seat
Weapons Management System
CRT Displays
2x Pontiac M39 20mm Guns

First I had to find a "Sharknose"

The Italeri Kit was once released with a shark nose and I decided to go for this one

A little bit more of adjustment...

It didn't look bad from profile....

And I wanted to call the F-29 actually "Bat"
But this looked more like a Duck  :banghead:

Back to square one...
New search
I was sure that the sharknose would fit, but Italeri must have done something wrong there.
I took Hasegawa's F-20, which also has such a radom.
And there's a slight difference

I didn't want to "canibalize" a F-20 for this and after having discussed it with a friend, he reminded me that somebody casted some sharknoses a while ago. Fortunately he had some spare in his stash....

(Little comparison with the X-29 and F-29 "Ducknose"  ;D)

Think I like the new nose job better than the duck.

As for markings, can't go wrong with Montana ANG

That's right! The new nose looks better  I am not that big fan of the ducknose. I will probably modify my Italeri F-19 for this reason

(Wow ! Come back, it's not mine. I found this photo on the ARC forum : http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/Gal1/501-600/gal550_F-19_Le/00.shtm ;D )

Last finished!

Now that's an exercise in development work if ever I saw one Bearmatt! Well done, it looks pretty darn good now.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Regards
Kit

I like this FSW plane, and... turn it into an operationnal plane would be nice :)
