How to reduce carbon emissions - Tip #1 - Walk to the Bar for drinks.

Cor, they do a Buffel!  ;D

I installed a structural test simulator for those in a plant in Pretoria in the 80s. Wonder if I can scratchbuild a simulator and plonk one of those kits on top.......?

*GASP* you weren't a sanctions buster, were you, Kit?   :o

They were just working up to them at the time.

The plant was run by Truckmakers, a South African offshoot of Magirus-Deutz, and they built the Buffel. But there were no Germans on the site at all because of the political situation, but the UK Government OK'd a Brit to go and install the rig, which was built in our US plant. Talk about an international 'incident'!

I was there for about 5 weeks, had a great time and the rig worked a treat, but about 3 years  later the US started the embargo and stopped me going back to support it. Needless to say the South Africans built their own updated electronics for it and carried on regardless!  :o

To the sanctions or the sanction busting?  ;)

The sanctions!

Our offices in Jo'burg were closed down and the staff, all two of them, were taken back to Minneapolis. I had to train up a South African engineer to look after the hardware before the boom came down. It all got a bit fraught around that time.

Bought some stuff from Chris Baxtor - nice chap to deal with.

I am based in Pretoria and Chris is in Cape Town and I guess this makes things a bit easier but still would recommend him !

Have you seen any of the Aerographix models?  I'm interested in their Rooikat and G6 but can't seem to find them anywhere.

Some very nice vehicles there for sure, and they would make good additions to my Honduras armour too, but the postage makes the things even more rediculous to buy don't you think??

I dug a bit and it looks like Truckmakers themselves are no more, and there's a psuedo-Magirus/Deutz operation in Pretoria who make the current SAMIL truck range. I suspect they may be the same place but as they're a military supplier I can't find out any more. Thanks for the offer anyway.

I've just received notice from Baxmod that they are planning to release a 1/35 G-6 155mm SPG out "prior to December".  Price apparently will be about 700-800 Rand.  It should be quite a large model!
