How was that done?
I'm thinking it was a magnetic track with opposing magnets on the hoverflyer. Was the liquid nitrogen the propellant? Why that?

Done with superconducting magnets.  They lift the cars and allow them to be directed (stop, go, reverse).  The liquid nitrogen is for cooling the magnets in the cars, which in turn are repelled by the magnets in the track which form a linear accelerator.
