Thought I'd like a little challenge this new year. PR19_Kit kindly sent me the Jo-Han A6M2 which looks a nice little kit for its age. I also got the Revell Messerschmitt Me P.1099B kit from ebay. Big box but on opening, what tiny wings it has. Then the grey matter started stewing .... by some strange cincidence the P1099 wings are the same depth as the Zero's. KerrrrrChinnnnng ! an idea is born !

Ok the fuselage has a curve at the wing root but that can be filled.

Also found a gun filled nose cone in my spares box. Can't remember whuch kit its from and it's a little bigger than the Zero fuselage but while there's a will there's a way.

   ;D :o Epic! I think that instead of filling it, you should cut the P.1099 wing to fit in the Zero "socket"

My brain hurts!  ;D

SO glad my l'il 'ole Zero found a good use at last.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Work has started in the crazy world of Bungle.  First off an out of the box build on the wings and engines from the 1099. Oh dear they look small. I wonder if they are too small for the proposed fuselage. Then again the 1099 wasn't exactly anorexic.

I've glued the rear half of the fuselage together but left the front unglued other than a wedge I have cut to fit the gun totting nose cone.

I also cut the starboard wing root to fit the wings and save on the amount of filler I'll need. Next its a match up for the nose...

It's a bit deeper than the Zero fuselage but I'll add a balsa fairing in there that will have a wheel bay for the nose wheel. Pity I can't take better photo's ! This little donkey will have a hell of a kick !

The original Zero only had the seat fitted to two prongs in the cockpit so I've built a better cockpit from the spares box.

I've also go plans for the P.1099 to married up to the Zero's wings - more of that later !

First an apology - I've been a bit lapse in maintaining this thread. It's been a bit of a roller-coaster since last posting. Decided to knock out a wall in the kitchen and put in a new kitchen so most nights have been reserved for beer and sleep. Next time I'm going to What-if the kitchen... When the wife says 'What if we knock that wall out and extend the kitchen' I'll remember to say 'What-if I get someone else to do it"

So a bit of hard graft and of course the weather turns artic. Wonderful !

Anyway I snatched a few minutes working on the model, taking photo's along the way so here's a bit of a catch up. If the next few postings this is a months work !

First off the seat(s)  On the left we have the 'Zerostoerer' seat suitably painted - on the right is the Me-1099 now to be known as the Mitsubishi R1M3 Kumorigachi (Broken Cloud) and a separate thread (soon)

Same again Zerostoerer at the top, Kunorigachi at the bottom.

The cockpit fits into the fuselage quite nicely. The rear of the fuselage is glued but the front is not allowing me to widen the front end to fit the gun nose.

Next it's on with the nose.... bristling with guns (I have no idea what kit this came from)

OK it fits in girth but its a bit deep. No problem I can put a bit of balsa in to make it look flush.

From this angle you can see the weights in place. Yes it's going to have a nose wheel.

Ah now the fun bit....... putty !  Putty and sanding. Lots of dust, more putty.

http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/h422/Sumones_bungled/Kikka-donkey/zero_e.jpg[/img]]

With the JoHan kit the wing bottom is one complete unit so out with the razor saw and then its glued into place.

Then its the balsa plug and a layer of filler. More sanding and it's in place.

Bit of a gap on the starboard side so .... hmmmm  I know more filler more sanding.

Yes indeed, coming along nicely. Surprising how much the A6M tail looks like the 262 tail that the wings evoke.

Name needs work, some of those storm names and winds and fighting tools with edges all blended.

Latest update and another apology ! Thought I'd snapped a few shots after putting the undercart on the Zero but noI'm afraid I didn't.

Over the weekend I fixed on some undercarriage and gave the kit a subtle shade of (prototype) orange.

Thankfully there's enough nose wait to keep here nose down (the nosewheel is all in one - white metal) - No main wheels attached.

Bit blurry the last one but I'll need sunglasses to finish this one !
