What's on the workbench!

I'm on holiday mode for the next two weeks.
Caught a bad cough and the sniffuls as well, so the only cure I know is to stay indoors and concentrate on a few builds. Whilst having a tidy up I came across a started 1/72 Mach2 WB-57F. It looks like a British version of the Lockheed TR.1. A raid in the spares boxes should reveal a B-57 landing gear and clear canopy.
Behind the cockpit is a hump taken from the luggage compartment of the Vickers Varsity. On top of the vertical tail fin is the ECM pod from a Airfix Nimrod MR.1/2 kit.
I might get that finished along with my Lockheed Super -T Constellation ( KC-121T) turboprop tanker.
So many started builds to choose from, 2018 should be a bumper year for finished builds. :banghead:

Day 1
Monday 27th November 2017

I'm using the 1/72 Hasegawa Shinmiewa PS-1 or SS-2 flying boat with the wings and engines from the Revell 1/72  HP Victor K2.
Most of the parts fit very well but there are gaps between the joining of the front and rear fuselage sections. Also the crew entrance door, T-tail and lower fuselage.
I'm still having problems with the landing gear and have used the beaching gear struts with the double tyres.
The cockpit could do with some detailing as well.

Whilst that's drying I picked up a copy of Warpaint Series No.34 the Avro Lincoln.
I think the dark earth and dark green colour scheme with the black underside would work well on a Shackleton. Just means sourcing a rear gun turret.

Day 2
Tuesday 28th November 2017

Had a lay in and did a food shop. Been watching videos on YouTube about the Telford Model Show, on the second video about ten seconds in there is a good shot of Kits' Revell Atlas and Mach2 SeaMaster builds plus other models from this forum who went.
The standard and variations on the other stands have given me lots of ideas for future builds.

That's awesome and what a great idea. I think I'll find a bunch of these vids myself to watch tomorrow as I work on various models.

Can you give us a link to that video please?
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

ModelBoat Mayhem is the only information I can find on the YouTube video.
There's a landing craft  carrying a lorry in the main picture. IPMS Telford 2017-1. 16 minutes 38 seconds long.
I've posted the video to Captain Canada on his facebook page

Day 3
Wednesday 29th November 2017

Work continues at a leisurely pace on the 1/72 Heller 80382 C-121A Constellation "Berlin".
The new engines taken from a 1/72 Hasegawa JS 147 Lockheed P-3C Orion have been cut and glued into place. The wings, nose gear, main landing gear and fuselage halves have been glued together.
The triple fin tail will be added during lunchtime and the wheels shortly afterwards.
The USNavy did propose a Allison T56 turboprop variant with the Starliner wings but no prototype was built, although a Connie was converted to carry a T56 engine on its outer engine mount for live testing trials.

Day 4 &5
Thursday 30th November and Friday 1st December 2017

With the C-121V drying, attention has turned to the Majestic. Which is based on the 1/72 Mach2 Martin SeaMaster. The front end is now host to the cockpit of the Airfix HS/BAe Nimrod.
Whilst the 1/72 Hasegawa Shinmiewa
PS-1 flying boat now has both wings of the Revell 1/72 HP Victor fitted. The undercarriage comes from the Airfix HS/BAe Nimrod kit, the nose has the 4 cannon as fitted to the DH Mosquito FB and a resin radome glued to the upper fuselage. FOD covers with be placed over the air intakes for the engines.

Monday 4th December 2017

I didn't do any whiffery on Sunday, but this morning I have been working on the Handley Page Sea Lion MRA.2. Some parts of the Revell 1/72 HP Victor K Mk.2 fit very well and others don't. Which is why I haven't fitted the underwing fuel tanks. The gap between the wings and the upper fuselage is an ideal place to fit the weapons bay.
I'll try and find the extended nose landing leg supplied by Freightdog or just order a few more.

Tuesday 5th December 2017

In a departure from my started builds, a parcel arrived with "spares and repairs" parts for a 1/72 Boeing B-17G, Short Stirling and Vickers Wellington.
The Wellington was only missing it's vertical tail fin, which was glued back in place. I'll be using this to create the Wellington AEW as used during WWII by the Royal Air Force.
The Boeing B-17G now has the Bristol Hercules engines from the Stirling. This will be based on the PB-1W but with an unmodified radome attached to the upper fuselage above the cockpit. Wingtip fuel tanks from a Heller Lockheed Constellation and the paint scheme from RAF Bomber Command. I'm sure that there's an article about a similar aircraft in one of my magazines.
The Short Stirling will be rebuilt using spare parts from various kits.

Wednesday 6th December 2017

Thoughts have turned to the Handley Page Sea Lion gunship as my Airfix AC-130 H kit finally arrived. The Post Office mislaid it so I have been waiting a month for it.
I'm using most of the guns on the Sea Lion, although they are a bit crude they fit the bill in many ways.
The AMT AC-130U will remain in it's box as I have put it on the future builds pile for 2019.
Most of the Airfix kit will be used on other builds.
PSR is the next stage, it's time consuming but it lets me visit my other started builds.

Thursday 7th December 2017

I haven't been sleeping to well so I thought a bit of Whiffing might help.
Using two 1/72 Revell Avro Shackleton kits the MR3 and parts from the AEW.2.
For starters the two kits are not compatible. So I've modified the cockpit to fit, moved the radome-AEW above the fuselage behind the cockpit. Used the dipping radome cover/hatch and will be adding the external refrigeration pipes, and  decals. I'm going to add the crew as well.
I know that I should have painted the small pieces first before assembly but in my haste but apart from the cockpit area there's not a lot of interior to see through the glazing of the windows.
A twin engined variant might work with a of auxiliary turbojets engines on pylons under the wings, similar to the Lockheed Neptune.

McColm

Five days left before I return to work, I know that there is still plenty of time to complete one of my started builds or this week ending on Sunday-started projects.
So far the Avro Shackleton AEW.3 hasn't required any filler/puty although after drying out some gaps have appeared.
The main concern was having a wrap free fuselage.
I had a go at sanding down the outer engine mounts now that the wings have been glued on. They need a little bit more work done to lose the outline.
The next stage is the ; tail fins, main engines and wing tip fuel tanks.

TheChronicOne

Go for the gusto!! That free time never seems to last as long as it should.

Saturday 9th December 2017

Having come up with the idea for the Avro Musketeer, I now have to build it. Which is easy to do as I am already working on the 1/72 Revell Avro Shackleton MR.3.
I did try and change the engines but went back to the Griffons using the ones from the Airfix MR.2. I have also flattened the nose. I'll see what other parts from the Airfix kit I can use for this build.

F-Rsin plastic Ref. FRP4006 Br.765
Breguet Deux-Ponts, double decker
in 1/144 scale.
The instructions do give you the option to build the; 765, 761S or 763.
I'll need to do a bit of research on line and see if can get hold of a reference book.
