Massive squadron of whif inbound!!  Tally ho!   ;D ;D

Some pretty cool looking wares, glad to see.
Thanks,
I'm determined to get these builds finished.

McColm

Wow there's more than enough builds to keep me going well into the new year and yet I'm easily distracted with ideas that didn't work out. For example kitbashing the Lockheed P-3 Orion with the wings from the BAe Nimrod. I think that I know where I have been going wrong. Instead of splicing the wings to fit the fuselage, place the fuselage on the lower Airfix wing. The multi- tube sonobouy launcher will need to be reduced to accommodate the weapons bay but dry testing has reduced the gaps.
On the positive side of things I can't start anything as I don't have the room until I can start hanging the finished builds from the ceiling.

McColm

It must be so frustrating following the stages of some of my started builds, just when you think I have almost completed the fabrication I go and change it again.
This is what's happened to the 1/72 Mach2 SeaMaster, I've now gone back to the four jet version. Only this time I have used the Rolls-Royce Spey engines from the Airfix BAe Nimrod kit but still kept the original wings. The tail is the Revell/Matchbox HP Victor.
I'll utilize the landing gear from the Airfix kit as well as the wing tanks and searchlight.

McColm

The Canadair North Star was a DC-4 fitted with Rolls-Royce Merlin engines. So in theory the DC-6 could be fitted with Rolls-Royce Griffon engines, as sound levels were not a concern in military circles. I think that I have some RCAF decals in the stash. A possible test plane with lumps and bumps fitted.

The Revell BV222 Viking, looked at this before and I keep thinking of adding the wings from the Airfix HS/BAe Nimrod to make a jet flying boat. Remove guns .

Build smaller projects and kitbash my spares bins.

Wings, though, are from an Avro Atlantic

Thanks,
I shall use this as a guide, I might have a pair of Vulcan wings in the stash.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

McColm

Just tried a pair of Airfix Vulcan wings to the BV222 fuselage and they do fit, thanks for the idea.

Bought the Mach2 PB2Y Coronado this morning on eBay. Although the Coronado lacked the range of the Catalina and the Sunderland 217 PB2Y's were produced. Most of them were converted into freighters towards the end of their lives.
However there was a proposal for a twin engined version offered in 1940 with two Wright R-3350B engines with a maximum speed of 240 mph and a 20% increase of range.
There were several commercial passenger versions, an ambitious 60  day passengers (economy class) or 32 for night flights. Later  versions for 12-18 in luxury accommodation.
The XPB3Y-1 Model 34 was supposed to be 75% bigger than the PB2Y but got cancelled in 1944.
With a change of engines and armaments removed a twin engined version with saddle tanks or underwing tanks doubling up as the flotation gear.
The Convair Trans-Oceanic flying boat (1937) looks to me like a kitbashed Connie on top of a flying boat. Drawings indicate a single tail fin and possible two- three rows of seats.
I might get away with just cutting off the Connie tail and turning the fuselage upside down, regluing the tail and slicing off the  top of the fuselage from the Coronado. The cockpit will need changing as the drawings depict a rounded front similar to the C-97. I will refer to the book by Robert E. Bradley "Convair Advanced Designs 1923-1962" pages 36-37.

Got the Mach2 Avro York 685 and it has the typical flash, sink holes and ill fitting parts found on most of their kits. The cockpit glazing is almost transparent whereas the passenger glazing is frosted.
My first thought was to fit parts from the Revell Avro Shackleton MR3, then I had a rethink. I found that I had the Airfix Avro  Lancaster B2 in the stash, so I will substitute the wings , landing gear, wheels and engines, tail fins from this kit.
The fuselage on the Mach2 kit will need to be glued in sections as there is a gap when placed together.

I'm sorry to tell you, but that wouldn't be a Whiff.

Avro converted the York prototype, LV626, to the one and only York Mk.2 with Hercules engines. I can't find a pic of the actual aircraft on the Net, but there is one in one of my reference books. I found this though.

Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Kit

What?!? Reality interfering with a perfectly sound whif-idea? How extraordinary annoying...  😂
Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition!
