Good idea, I have a couple of those filed under 'Railway'.

But I only intend building a little bit of the USS Long Island, full size it would be nearly 19 feet long!

you may as well all give up -- the truth is much stranger than fiction.

Dragging this thread thirteen years into the present day, here's the box of the AMT Akron/Macon airship kit that I've just been given by my good mate Pete.

It's in the ever-popular 1/520th scale, which means the model comes out around  20 ins long,  so it's not too bad, and it's nicely detailed too, with the props/engines/cooling scoops etc. all supplied. They even have the under hull hangar door as a separate item so if you were really masochistic you'd build a trapeze hanging out of there and put a 1/520 scale Sparrowhawk on it.  Yeah, right..................

But as this thread is about the much more modern Convair Petrel a 1/520 Petrel would fit too, and one of them would be about 12 mm long, hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....................

So I might just do that.  ;D

BTW, Plastruct is easy to glue if you use their brand of glue. It works on polystyrene and the ABS some of their parts are made out of. I use it all the time.
This whole project is fascinating so please carry on!

And you were complaining about me opening a door in 1/600 scale

The Alron/Macon kit was partly built when Pete gave it to me, and I've done a bit of fettling on it, filing sink marks, filling holes for struts that are included in the kit but weren't on the real airship etc.

I've also started to build a Convair Petrel to hang underneath it.  ;D

I said it was going to be small, and it is. Here it is, along with the 1/520 scale plan I printed off.

And to show just how small it is, here's a Swann-Morton scalpel alongside it!

And to show how it fits with the airship itself, here are all the components in one pic.

A fair way to go yet, but it's started.
