What he said !

If you slapped some Italian markings she's look just like one of those dirty old birds right before their retirement party.

Great modelling there, for sure.

My thoughts exactly Capt

Another little update.
I got the new tips on the wing tanks done.

I also finished reshaping the nose and got her new pitot tube fitted.

I got looking at the lower fin and I know that the RAAF RF-104's has a faster angle on them.  ;D Note: I remove the locating tab on the lower fin.

I filled the slot where the lower fin goes with super glue and baby podwer due to I was not happy the fit. (gap on both sides of fin) After sanding slot smooth, will glue fin down. You can see my two sharpie marks to help relocate the fin.

Here you can see the corrected fin installed. I brushed on some Tamiya flat black as spot putty to fill in the small imperfections.

Now it's time to map out the camo pattern!   :banghead:

Until later,

Thanks Guy!
Well after a few days but I did manage to map out the camo pattern. Working with only one side made things tricky. But after studying the pattern I have come to this conclusion. The tan only touches the black, the green also only touches the black but the black touches both. Now all I have to do is to map out the right side and the whole underside based on that logic.
Gekko_1 awesome profile

So with a pencil and a very fat eraser, I started with what is known, the left side. To help me remember what's what, I marked the different areas T for Tan, G for Green and B for Black.

Next the right side.

The hardest part was the bottom. Tying it all together. Still got a bit of work to get the main gear door smooth. And still got to map out the underside of the tail.

Hopefully paint will start this weekend!

Still more to come,
Steven L

Good stuff (and that's coming from a 104-hater)!

Re. the paint, I would have done a two-tone green/tan, then added the black afterwards as it splits the two up?

TA-DA!!!

Was really worried about this paintjob this morning when I started but now I'm pretty stoked! The tan color is not as dark as Richard's profile but I can live with it. And still got some overspray of each color to fix.

Until later,

I looked at the test shot for the camo scheme on the A-10 fin and thought "What a perfect idea!"  An A-10 in that pattern would look awesome!
This RF-104 is brilliant!  Love the look ;D
