Small update:

Expect this ship to be finished soon sometime in February. Still have to add a few decals and make a display base.
Modeling isn't just about how good the gluing or painting, etc. looks. It's also about how creative and imaginative you can be with a subject.
My modeling philosophy is: Don't build what everyone else has done. Build instead what nobody has seen or done before.

Captain Canada

Right on ! Everybody is getting into the spirit around here and finishing off old kits....awesome ! And further to what everybody has been saying about this build, you can never have enough weapons on a ship this size !

Nothing yet. Maybe after the 1st of the new year sometime in January I'll get back to work.

LOL love it.....and welcome to the club. Just because we say 'February' in January of 2013, does not necessarily mean that calendar year

Look forward to seeing some progress myself. Love boats, and they are going on top of my list in the New Year. Honest. Maybe.

Well, if you like this one, then the next one will be 5-10x better.   ;D  Maybe in 2-3 years time, I'm going to whif another 1/350 TAMIYA New Jersey battleship kit and add the following:

Gun Systems:
9x      16"/50 (40.6 cm) Mark 7 guns in three triple turrets
6x       5"/54 (or 5"/62) Mark 45 guns
6x       20mm Phalanx CIWS
4x       25 mm/87 (1") Mark 38 Machine Gun System
8-10x  0.50" (12.7 mm) M2 Browning Machine Gun

Missile Systems:
3-4x    RIM-116 Rolling Airframe Missile (RAM) launchers
6-8x     quad RGM-84 Harpoon missile launchers
2x       32-cell Mk. 41 VLS for anti-ship, anti-air, & anti-surface.
2x       octuple RIM-7 Sea Sparrow/ESSM missile launchers

Other Defensive Systems:
4x       Mk.32 triple tube torpedo launchers
8-10x  six barreled Mk.36 SRBOC chaff/decoy launchers
4-6x    Nulka decoy launchers

Also:
2-4x  RHIB's and Motor boat launches
Small hangar and storage area aft of No.3 turret for Firescout UAV's.
Landing pad/parking area, but no hangar for 3-4 SH-60 Seahawks.

Oh yeah....that'll be sweet ! Hard not to get carried away with all these awesome 350 scale upgrade sets eh ?

you could remove 1 or both of the inner main turrets that would free up ALOT of weight and space

Bad news.  The pics in Post # 7 on page 1 are all you're going to get. I regret to say that the model has taken a turn for the worst. While trying to remove some books from a shelf, I accidentally knocked the ship off the shelf and parts have been lost and broken, especially of the radar masts.  :banghead: I don't really have any plans to rebuild/fix the ship. As I mentioned slightly further above, I have more interest in building a bigger 1/350 scale version anyway. ;)

That is a shame. It was looking so good.
Well, looking forward to the 1/350th build!

Ya, that's too bad. But also looking forward to seeing her bigger and more detailed sister !

Not just the reactors but the steam turbines, condensers and heat exchangers. Go really modern and have the turbines drive generators that power electric motors that actually drive the props. Then you might have enough electrical power for lasers or rail guns. Crap, just build a new ship!

I'm not sure what I'll do for a 1/350 replacement. Haven't fully decided if I'll keep the funnels or not. I do want to keep all three 16" gun turrets though. An IOWA battleship just isn't a proper battleship without those big guns.   If I change the design of the smokestack funnels, I may go with something similar to this:

This looks great. All I've seen are the ski jump versions.

Yes that is a real beauty. I love the control tower ( or whatever you call them on a ship ) at the back. Great job on that model.
