so the story goes..

after the factory had been heavily bomb by the Germans. Britain found its self struggling to to keep up with production of its rolls Royce Merlin's
and the Russia was finding it even hard to come by spare to keep there "lend lease" hurricanes in the air.
SO.. thay asked if spares to keep the Merlin running were not available.. what engine was available with spares to keep them serviceable??
and the answer was... the Bristol Hercules
so a large stock of said engines were shipped to russia and the engine was Retro fitted to there hurricanes as and when thay were needed..
doing this had its advantages.
being an air cooled engine meant that the cooling system of the Merlin could be done away with. this means less weight and no radiator cowling on the under side.. this made room for an extra hard point  to take either a fuel tank or a extra bomb
the conversion proved to be very popular with both pilots and ground crew for the Hercules was a lot easier engine to keep in the air!

so that's how it might have been ;D
ended up having the paint on the red stars.. as my decals box didn't have any in it??!!
hope you like. and tell me what you think

mmmmmmmmm - bl!@#$ nice

while the Finnish finish would be beaut - I think a nice red Russian star would be great colour contrast

well done - looks great no matter what country

Now that looks really good, suitably distressed in a Russian winter  and of course they did look at alternative engines for the Hurricane inc. the Hercules and the one I've always liked the look of the Dagger

Excellent!  I recall McGreig building an Ash-82 Spitfire and Hurricane, but I don't know whether he finished the latter and whether it's posted up on the forum.

suitably distressed in a Russian winter

I think anyone/anything would inevitably become suitably distressed in a Russian winter!

It's a brave decision for choosing this scheme, and it really is a surprising result. Incredibly daring the fighter-bomber configuration with the central bomb, where before there was a radiator. Congratulations for the idea, and having a plane so beautiful.

Spent a week out there one January, in Yekaterinburg (I think that's how you spell it). Amazing experience for a week but how they live and survive in conditions like that is beyond me

Grubby & grunty, very nice!  The radial doesn't look out of place on a Hurricane.

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.
