So here`s my next project for a competition on another forum. Picked up this 1/78 scale Rotodyne in the MZ sale for this particular comp with the view to turn it into one of the 20 or so examples that the RAF were expected to order.

I picked the name Bybon after a famous ancient, (early 6th century BC), Greek weight lifter. Felt that this name fell in line with the early 60`s era and I`m gonna see if I can convince you that this would have been the aircraft type chosen by the RAF over the Chinook.

The finish will be of an example in the mid to late 80`s which would of had a few `mods` along the way including an attack capability.

Anyway, I would have loved to have given you all a full run down and review of the kit that you get out of the box, but as you can see, once the spruces were removed most of the kit was still in the box......

I`m also going to have to do a little jiggery pockery to the inside of the cabin to bring it up to a military configeration.......,

..... but I still like the idea of keeping the `crapper` in place.....

More updates as and when.

First time I've seen the kit inside the box (I have the Airfix version) dosn't look to bad  Looking forward to the build

Apart from the 'wrong' scale and the dreaded third fin (see threads elsewhere about this) the Revell 'dyne is great. The rotor head detail is MILES better than the Airfix version and the interior stuff is wonderful. And you get a flight crew with it too!
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

The 3rd post down describes the centre fin positions used in the RW and Revell's depiction of a false interim position. Information taken from the David Gibbings magnificent book on the 'dyne.

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

You could go with a VIP transport variant, Admirals Barge, 32 Sqdn RAF or possibly even the Royal Flight ?

Thanks for the heads up Kit.

The next 3 pics shown what you mean I hope. First one is how the model is designed to look and be built with that strange angle of the middle vertical. The 2nd is the middle vertical fin in the correct `in flight` angle while the 3rd is the angle I`ll go for when the aircraft is shut down on the ground.

Did a little bit more last night as the rest of the pictures show. Have to say I`m having fun with this and in a strange twist, it`s because I have to hunt down the bits in the box that have broken away from the sprue. Feels more like I`m `making` this model rather than just putting partss together, if that makes sense? Perhaps I just need to get out more??

A bit like a cross between a Jigsaw and a model  ;)

Have the house to myself today so given the choice of chores laid outby SWMBO or working on the Bybon, I have for all intents and purposes committed `suicide` by choosing to work on the Bybon.  ;D

Looking to get the inside completed today and here`s where Im at.

The seating configuartion was been sorted and left some space at the rear for any Jeep type vehicle or artillery piece that may be carried into combat.

Also sorted out the frame that holds the main rotor in place.

The ceiling was fitted and the two half`s have been glued together. Waiting for that to dry and then it`s out with some filler to correct a couple of minor gaps.

Looking good so far.

Wonder what it would look like as a regular aircraft without the rotor and some longer wings, hmmm...
