Totally Chinook! Very nice indeed, still makes me want to build a purely fixed-wing version.

(Also got another Revell Rotordyne kit for another whif project. I think 2012 is going to be tc`s rotordyne year....  )

Looks even better in these latest shots, tc2324.  You know what does it for me?  The IFR probe - inspired; it really is the 'clincher' - the obvious build would have arguably just to cam up a Rotodyne and add drop tanks, but the prob is ace - well done.

I'm not at all sure you'd notice the smaller scale amongst another lot of /172 scale models, unless there was an Airfix 'dyne in the same row. And that Revell rotor head knock SPOTS off the Airfix offering. The more I look at it the more I like it. 

And I have a couple of them in The Loft too........

Actually, comparing the tip jets to the Airfix ones, they look like they're on the wrong way 'round on the Revell kit.

Perhaps Fairey, (or Westland....) found it was quieter with the rotor going the other way round?   

IIRC the blades will fit either way up, so that could be the problem.

No, tc has them the right way around.  The rotor should spin anti-clockwise when viewed from above.  The bullet fairing (on the front of the tip jet) should protrude from the leading edge of the rotor, in this respect the Revell kit is more accurate than the Airfix kit.

Got a couple of these myself. Since one of them came from Edinburgh Oxfam (via ebay) at a very reasonably price, it's scheduled to be done in Oxfam colours, unloading relief supplies with the help of HO/OO (1/76th) railway bits.

The size and shape of the tip jet and its fairings would depend on the date any photograph was taken. They tested LOADS of different jet configurations to cut down the ruddy awful racket the thing made. Some were even rectangular, and quite a few had multiple exhaust outlets.
