More a nearly was.  Think it's a fixed wing Tornado.

Here's another one I spotted last week,

Wilbur Smith's Eagle In The Sky is a stirring tale of a young man who becomes a jet pilot in the South African Air Force flying Mirages..... So what is that on the cover?  :o

I've got an earlier copy of 'Eagle in the Sky' and a darn good read it is too, but my printing has a Mirage IIIE on the cover.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Second that!  Great book, like most of Smith's.

That should be a dead simple whif, has anyone ever done it?

Dale Brown's Day of the Cheetah had a similar thing going on.  The first cover had a picture of a F-18 in a fetching test scheme of pale grey with purple and yellow stripes.  But the aircraft the title is talking about is the XF-15F Cheetah, basically an operational F-15 SMTD.  Later covers corrected it, but weren't as striking.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Aeroplanedriver's RAF Tornado FG.5

Never one for needless self promotion...but here is my Tornado FGA.2

;D ;D ;D

More a Tornado/Jaguar mash up to me.  Doesn't the FG.5 use F-18 wings?  The FGA.2 build thread explains how A-5 wings were used in that instance.  I'm doing one for the Cosford show that uses inverted F-4 wings to create some TSR.2 lineage.  ;D ;D

That fixed wing tornado on the book cover gives me an idea, twin tails from a mig 29 or 31, mig-31 wings, mig-29 engines. A pair of Mig-29 or SU-21 wings might work too.
