<...> as the OEZ Mig has extra fuselage spines for different tankage, I was wondering if I could persuade an MF spine to mate with the-7's fuselage to give an Su-7MT. We will see

Good idea!  Had a similar idea for a whiffed Su-9U. The idea was for a "westernized" all-weather interceptor (therefore the twin-sticker Fishpot). To give it a bit more range and to modify the looks a bit I wanted to got for a MiG-21PF-ish fuel tank spine. PF-ish in that the fuel tank would not extend into the fin, but fair into the spine just ahead of the fin. Given that the Su-9 is quite a bit longer than a MiG-21, an MF spine should work well.
Cheers,
Moritz

Must, then, my projects bend to the iron yoke of a mechanical system? Is my soaring spirit to be chained down to the snail's pace of matter?

Yep the MF spine with a bit of bodging just comes to the fin fillet so should not be a problem. What will be is getting the cockpit end to mate up. But there are 2 canopies in the OEZ Mig I am nicking the bits from. We will see.
Edit - just realised there is an SMT spine in the Mig-21 kit as well so I might be able to patch a bit of that in as the MF tank comes to the end of the Su's cockpit. If I cannot make it mate with the Mig cockpit (also x2 in the kit) I suppose I could make it like an A-4F's spine/hump - but that's paln "C"

Geoff

So mojo has returned - finished a few from the shelf of doom.
x2 Sabres, 1 USAF with cameras to intercept UFOs from something I read. 1 Iraqi AF very nearly a what was.
An A5M real life
USN Brewster from USS Wasp on Malta
A P-40H Hiso-Hawk with Hispano-Suiza engine, USAAF North Africa
Have a NEIAF P-40 on the blocks just needs decals and I have to figure out what the hell I have done with the canopies. If I can find them I have a Macci 202 nearly finished as well.
Then back to the Su-7

Yes I like that idea as well - may go for that if I do an earlier version as my loft is lagged with old Su's and Mig's. Also got some resin RS-2U's in dyer need of a home.

Geoff

So I cannot post pics here but I have put them on my facebook page - yes I am a sad old fart I know.

Thinking I might do another Su7 fighter but an earlier version with the earlier radome and antennas depends how much of a pig the current one turns into.

Geoff

So I have the Su's fuselage together and am having a pig of a time getting the Mig-21 canopy to fit. Think it will be plan "C", where I use the Su's canopy and end the fuel tank like the A-4F's hump - not sure. Having said that I have a pic of a N Korean Mig-15UTI with a similar added tank. Hmmmm>

Mossie

Geoff, would it be easier to add the Su-7's wings to a single seat Su-17 fuselage?
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Yes but then it would be a real plane not a wif

Not with the fat  spine of the Su-17M3 though?  I know there was the Su-7IG which served as a prototype for the Su-17, but I don't think it went the other way.

Ahh good point - hmm

I've had a good look through my Aerofax guide on the Su-7/-17/-20/-22 and there  wasn't a spined variant of the Su-17 with the swept wing.

The earlier Su-17M/M2 with the slim spine has a very similar fuselage to the Su-7.  The later M3/M4 with the fat spine have a longer nose intake.

Just measured the Su-22M3 fuselage against the Su-7's wings and they fit - You sir are a genius - I feel a kitbash coming on after I get this one done.

Mossie

Glad to be of help.  Potential for the Su-9's delta wing as well.

Finally had a bit of time to model when the mood was upon me. I have got a Mig-21SMT spine grafted onto an Su-7BKL fuselage. A few sessions of PSR are now needed, but it looks ok so far. Got to add the radar display in the cockpit as i forgot it - Doh!
