Hi,

I'm sure there is/was a conversion set to convert a Sunderland into a Sandringham, does anyone know which manufacturer it was that released the set ?

I was going to suggest Dana Kopher for that.

The Sandinghm conversion is mentioned in the Airliner SIG Forum quite a bit but I've never seen one. Dana's stuff is held in high regard in the US, but it's not cheap.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

What else has been done then?

Mostly he does engine conversions of 1/72 scale piston engined stuff, but I can't get into the AMD Group files list at the moment.

May be worth emailing Dana at dkopherATyahoo.com and ask him.

as there's no Sunderland thread in the whiff files, I'll ask here ...

Anyone have a clean Sandringham line-drawing ??? (or Sunderland for backdating)
the one I'd usually start with (on that French/Russian site) is a bit too grubby & would need a fair bit of work to make it suitable for colouring (have an idea for an airline ... the name is secret for now ).

thanks raafif

Sunderland drawing on Wiki but it is pretty small.

Looks like a larger image on Blueprints but you have to register to see it.

Something wrong with that drawing......

The engines on a Sunderland point outwards, not quite at 90 deg to leading edge, but getting there. Shorts had to sweep the wing back a bit after they built the prototype to solve a CG issue IIRC, but left the engines as they were.

It's a Mk I too, with the unfaired step and the twin upper fuselage gun positions. By the time they were being 'civvie-ised' most had the faired step and upper turret.

That bottom one's tricky, a military Sunderland converted to a civvie Sandringham and then re-militarised!

I like the side mounted barbettes, are they to give some means of protection to the rear without fitting a tail turret again?
