Well I was wondering, if we were to "upgrade" the Buffalo, ala F4F-F6F, then what elements would require change? Obviously a much more powerful engine and armament, but aerodynamically, what is suggested?

I would think it would have to rival the Grumman Wildcat so a Buffalo upgrade would have to include wingfold and prehaps chopped wingtips and a larger tail?
maybe also a stronger undercarrage, using the existing type as a basis as it looked unique to the type- just needs beefing up a bit.

Longer wings would be good...........  ;)
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Probably a new fuselage and wings too  ;)

My whole modelling life revolves around that phrase, needless to say.  ;)

So when you finally trade in Terra Firma for the ol' wings and harp, they're going to have to make you a specil extendedset of wings ain't they....

Well, here's Brewster's idea - Wright 2600 engine, 27' 11" length (18" increase), 40' 8" (5' 8" increase) wingspan, wingfolds inboard of the aileron  break.  This drawing is based on the XF2A-1, so assume the later straight leading edge fin and full spinner would be added.

Looks pretty much like a Corsair in the that top view.

If you are going to add a lot of weight in the form of a bigger engine, you need more wing to carry all that weight.

One of the main failings of the Buffalo, as set up for US Navy, was that it was too heavy to fly well. Contrast this with the F2A-1 / Model 239, which was lighter and, apparently flew very well.
