That looks REALLY good, does it have the Ajeet radar nose grafted onto the trainer nose?  :thumbsup: :bow:

Great looking Gnat Keith.  :thumbsup:

Although I wouldn`t want to be flying as I launch one of those `winders......  :lol:

Not sure I'd want to be landing with them still in place either: the rote clearance looks a bit marginal, so with a bit of u/c compression..... :o

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Great model indeed! :wub: :wub: :wub: :bow: :bow: :bow:
Nice new tooling too! :thumbsup:

Well, well, well!  I think you and I almost prove the theory that if you give x number of chimps a typewriter each they'll type out Shakespeare.  You'll recall from one of my earlier posts I'd applied decals/transfers for a 603 Sqn machine, well we've pretty much gone for the same configuration.
Squadron markings √ either side of roundel;
Aircraft code √ on the fin (but none on the nosewheel door);
Now as I've just 'single-seated' a T1 I've more space on the fin so there's a squadron badge above the fin flash, which you'll recall is raked and towards the leading edge of the fin;
Sidewinders √ but I've used Airfix Tornado GR4 pylons, and an earlier mark of missile, but no drop tanks.  Missiles are being painted at the moment and I hope to have them fitted and the model photo'd this weekend.

Thanks Kit, It is supposed to represent a small radar, its actually the front from a SNEB pod  :blink:
I've also moved the slipper tanks to the outboard pylon position.

As for clearance on rotation, with the tail bumper touching there is still about a Sidewinder's fin
clearance, between the Sidewinder fin and the ground. See I did check!

Kitbasher, I did wonder about keeping the T1 fin (I think it looks better) and it might have been
needed as I kept the T1 wing. I shall look forward to seeing yours :thumbsup:

The British have raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved". Soon though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross". Londoners have not been "A Bit Cross" since the Blitz in 1940 when tea supplies ran out for three weeks

Looks like we'll have a complete squadron of Gnat F1s by the end of the year!

If I could even see one I mught be persuaded to join in the 'Gnat Group Build'.  ;D

Looks great, very nice work! :thumbsup:
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Radish

So darlings, I'm looking to build a Gnat or two, but I'm thinking of adding a nose cannon, underslung like on the F-4E....obviously not as big. Re-locate the pitot to the wing, radar nose, single-seat....

Thinking Rhodesia, Oman, ...Jordan? Saudi?? ;)

I think you'll need to re-locate the pilot to the wing at this rate!

RE guns, Steve (Aircav) posted these proposed cannon pods in the Gnat whif thread.  They're basically the slipper tanks with a modified front end.

How about the gun in an under-fuselage fairing and the ammo where the back seat was, the installation being generally similar to the GSh-23 ones seen on late MiG-21s and L-39ZAs?

The slipper tank guns as a standard fit and the rear pilot replaced by a fuel tank would be more sensible.  Replace used pod with fully armed for a quicker turnaround.  This way, you've a centreline free to carry a bomb.  Or a cluster bomb and the outer hardpoints carrying the rockets.  Then you've a cheap, lightweight ground attack aircraft.  One of those in Indian markings would look good.
