Captain Canada

Bought the old Hobbycraft kit to be a RCN SAR bird.

Found 2 others in the parts bin, one was my ancient RAAF bird ( can't recall the make, ESCI maybe ? ) and the other is Italeri that my son built.

That top one is short!  :o

Never seen that kit before, but I've had the other two at one time or another.

Is this maybe your idea (in a way)?

More here.

Top one Italeri?
Middle one Hobbycraft?
Bottom one?  1/48?

The reason the top one looks short is because the tail is moulded as a separate part to the rest of of the fuselage.  I'm in the middle of building one at the moment and a bugger its proving to be!

I just built the Hobbycraft one - the one I did with the folded wings and rotors for the RAMC.  Its tail slots into the fuselage at the rear, which is why it appears longer than the Italeri one.

That yellow one is pretty sweet. Would definately make a good SAR bird for Canada.

The big one is 72nd scale as well.

Have you considered doing a RCN ASW version as a replacement for the Sea King (after the S-92 and the EH101 Petrel failed attempts).

Use the ASW gear off a later issue RN Merlin or a Seahawk ?

Thanks for the commenst guys.

Geoff : I had thought about that. I was sizing up the radome from the Merlin kit, but decided against it as this one is going on the premis of a low(er) cost bare bones kinda SAR thing, so that we could actually afford it. And I'm also planning on stealing Kitnut's Merlin idea with the big radome.

Opened up the door and added a wee bit of detail just so it doesn't look empty.

Hey Guys,
I know I'm jumping all over the place with kits...but this time for real. I'm finishing a bunch of stuff as my hobby room / whole stinking basement is out of control ! I should really take a pic of all my half-builts. :banghead:

Anyway, going ahead with my bare-bones SAR bird for the RCN. And yes, Rat, that's some of my 'proper' modelling sauce

And here's a 10 second bitch. Model paint consitency. Ugh....One tin is perfect, one is really watery, one is waaay darker. I know they are from diferent eras, but....and it's even worse with my old stand by favourite Testors bottles. Some even smell different. Who knows....cheapest bidder maybe ?

An model subject I've never built or owned.....but one I've wanted to...especially after reading a book years ago that featured a heavily armed one....book title eludes me at the mo but 'Hammerhead' sticks in my head for some reason.....looking forward to this.....

Ye gods Cap'n, I'm amazed that left hand tin of Humbrol even flows! That pattern of tin hasn't been used for EVER!  :o

I'm not surprised they look, feel and smell different as Humbrol have surely improved their manufacturing processes many times since that first one was made.

Not even sure I remember that first tin's design  Interestingly Humbrol have brought most of their paint production back to the UK. See what the "new" stuff is like
