Still no post-move modelling, however the loft has been sorted and Modelling Corner will be put to the test when Madame K and the Mother-in-Law watch Strictly Come Dancing this coming Saturday.  Here's a pic:

 You cannot view this attachment.

Stash and yet-to-be-unpacked builds/part-builds are in the boxes in the middle of the picture.  Modelling table is there with associated lighting (there's also strip lights in the loft plus a couple of windows (blinds were down when I took the picture).  There's my modelling toolbox and bag of paints + decals.

Unfortunately can't unpack or invest in a) a display cabinet for builds, and b) a small bookshelf for reference folders until after pesky sprayfoam insulation is removed in the New Year. (officially A Bad Thing in a 1930s house, I fear the previous owners were mis-sold but hey, helped us further knock the price down).

Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

That's either a 1/72 scale model or a flippin' big loft  :o

Seriously, looks a nice "man hole" mate

A decent size - spot the Revell Shackleton and Zvezda Il-62 boxes  ;)

As its at the top of the house you are going to need a fridge, kettle, sink and toilet.

Looks good.  A nice space.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Looks like a good tidy workroom. I hope the flooring is up to scratch as mine is not great to walk on. Good to see it's got proper wiring and plug sockets.

See you kept the moving boxes. Is that in readiness for storing future stash increases?

Flooring has been well done, Nick.  And the boxes?  Well.....😉

🤔 fridge and kettle....

Bathroom is at the bottom of the loft ladder, so very handy!

We say this every time a modelling room is discussed:- good heating/ventilation,  more power sockets than you first think you need, plenty of light a large/solid workstation .  And since you are in the roof-space up a ladder  a safe means of transporting tea/coffee/ ale/ cocoa etc .

Enjoy it when it is fully set up!

Nice one Dave.

The only thing to be wary of with a loft space is temperature variation. I used to model in the attic in my house, but since it's above most of the insulation, it got unbearably hot in summer and freezing cold in winter. As well as comfort, it can also affect stored models, and particularly decals, since the humidity often varies with the temperature. Adding silver insulation blankets to the underside of the rafters helped a bit, but I still had to appropriate a table downstairs for modelling during the winter. Of course I've had the house to myself since my mum died, so now the modelling bench is in the the living room!

Fingers crossed hypothermia/heat exhaustion don't prevail!

There's currently spray foam insulation between the rafters but that's going in the New Year.  Plan is to replace it with conventional fibre roll insulation with plasterboard and a skim of plaster over it.  At least then there will be a ceiling that can be painted white, adding to the overall light and airy feeling.

It's well ventilated with a couple of Velux windows complete with integral blinds.  The east-facing one is above the modelling table, while the south-facing one is comfortably far enough away so as not to generate (with the blind up) too much heat on sunny days.  Equally that window I'm hoping won't generate an annoying draft when open.

Layout works pretty well, need to swap the lights across (there's a reason - insomniacs wanting to be cured please PM me for the reason).

Discovered I needed a method to get some water up there to use with wet and dry paper and decalling - easily answered.

Opened a few boxes containing part builds and so far no casualties.  Tiny but important bit of work done on the 'Tophe' Miles M.21.  Involved digging out the M.21's parts plus two other 'in progress' Hurricanes.  Quite a Hawker-themed session that I'll carry on with until all three builds (two whifs and one RW) are done.
