Things mostly have a way of working out. <_<

Indeed, just as they are now.

Meanwhile, this week I discovered I have distant rellies in NZ.  Yet to plot them out on the family tree (they're on Mum's side) but Alfred Hickin (formerly of Cundy Street, Royal Victoria Docks) left London pre-1914 and set up home in Invercargill, South Island.

He's listed in www.aucklandmuseum.com's 'online cenotaph', as is his son Russell James Hickin.

I feel a holiday coming on.....😉

As good a reason as any.

It's surprising what you can find online, these days.

Just over a week left before the removal men turn up.  Stash and built models carefully packed away and catalogued, except for three part builds that I hope to tinker with before Removal Day.  One of these is the Memorial Build GB 'Miles M.21' that is definitely coming together (update probably over the coming weekend); very grateful for the extension, desperately hoping to be finished in time.

One odd thing.  My built Airfix Boomerang is definitely packed, but it's the one item that's not been logged so I've no idea which box it's in!

We expect a full report on what those Kiwis are up to! Bring model kits, parts and paints with you to bribe them into revealing their secrets!

Just looked at a map for Cundy Road and it's very likely he crossed paths with my great-grandparents. They lived on Victoria Dock Road near the former Seafarers Mission, just around the corner from the end of Cundy Road. There's now a park on that site.
Very little left there from that era thanks to the Luftwaffe and postwar housing improvements.

Good luck with the move. I hope it all goes smoothly, nothing important gets broken and that the first box you open actually has the tea, coffee and biscuits inside.

Quite possibly.  Some years ago it became apparent that my maternal antecedents lived very close indeed to Madam K's maternal antecedents in the Walworth/Kennington area.

As for the move, thanks Nick.  Tea/coffee/2 cups/kettle/biscuits will travel in the car with us!  Plus, our daughter lives about a mile away so we'd always blag her stuff!

If I remember correctly from my now long distant infant school days, Mum and Dad would have refered to that as the new married quaters survival kit.
Roughtly speaking that would have been around 1975-6 and the school was a BAOR run place on the outskirts of Hamlin.

Good luck with the move Dave. At least you know where your new LMS is located.

South of the River  ;)

Best of luck with the move Dave, hope the weather's ok for it, and remember that if you end up driving into the sea, you've gone too far  ;)

Start of week 2 by the sea.  Move went well, great team from the removal company, the parking suspension at the old house went well and we were blessed with perfect removal weather (dry, sunny and pleasantly warm) at both ends.

Attacking the unpacking - no discernible damage to boxes containing the stash, part builds and builds but the proof of the pudding......

No clue yet as to when the boxes will be opened and modelling will commence.  However, on a more positive note I paid a visit to my new LHS in the week.  Resisted the temptation to shell out on one of the new Airfix Easy Build Shannon Class lifeboats to go with the Severn Class kit that's in the stash but did invest in a Hawker P.1127 'Vintage Classics' repop a) for the decal sheet that'll go with the whatever vintage one already in the stash, and b) whiffery.

Good to hear that you're all moved in safely. Even better to hear you have a proper local hobby shop
